I knew I should have kept my mouth shut in that other No Front Plate thread. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I haven't got the $$$ amount for the ticket yet. I'll call tomorrow and find out. I'm still not sure if I'm going to rush out and put it on. I made it 7 years w/o a ticket on various cars since I've been back in Ohio. I just really hate the way they look on various cars. Divided out by that many years, it's really not too much per day.... We'll see.

You could always move to where they don't require a front plate :banghead:

I live in Wisconsin and border state Minnesota is just across the Mississippi river - both states require front plates - I have been stopped and warned in both states - decided not to tempt fate any longer and draw undue attention to myself - I put the front plate on -

If you think that's bad...

One of our friends Johnno got a no plate ticket PARKED!!

Yep, he was in Yuptown Minneapolis, plugged a meter, came out 1 hour later to a "fail to display plate, fail to display tag" $100 ticket!!

See...it could be worse :D

Too bad. I guess we all run the risk without the front plate. So far, so good - 3 Vettes in five years and haven't been stopped yet. I'm sure I'll regret saying that at some point.

I've gotten away with 7 years between the Camaro and the Vette.. Ticket is $77.00 so I figure the $11.00 / year tax isn't too bad. I'm just curious if there is a higher charge for a second offence.

Personally, I think it's BS unless it's used as probable cause for something more serious such as a suspended driver's license, etc. I've been in the law enforcement business for over 32 years and I've never written a ticket for Improper Display of Registration unless there was another violation to go along with it.

the Ohio State Patrol lobbied against it and was removed from the legislation. Ohio will fork out another 2 million dollars in taxpayers money to make front plates next year.

They only need $1,999,923 more to break even.

So, are you going to put it on or not? :p:

:iagree:

It is not a moving violation and will not add points to your driving record so keep it off and risk the ticket! I dont agree with the law but hey it gives me another tool to use to legally stop some schmuck who is wanted or revoked/suspended.

A real crime in most people's opinions involve a victim of some sorts. To the best of my knowledge, no one has been hurt, killed, extorted, or otherwise wronged caused by a lack of a front license plate.

I'm almost looking forward to the time I get stopped for it. Around here, all they issue are fix-it-tickets (no fine). I have my front license plate mounted behind the front cover, and have a screwdriver in the car. I'm thinking I can remove the front cover faster than he can write the ticket up. :D So he can just sign it off as fixed as soon as he's done writing the ticket.

hummmmm;

*rape
*murder
*child abduction
*burglary
*agrivated burglary
*vandalism
*theft
*welfare frauds

these are real crimes. A police officer can't catch these criminals
in-the-act if he is looking down at cars to see if they have a front plate.
What a silly waste of valuable crime fighting resources.

Ragtop,

Did you have the front plate with you ? If you did you could have put it on the top of the dash. On my 73 convertable I have the center grill, I keep the front plate behiend the seat, just in case .

Don't feel too bad. My son has had 3 "nfp equipment violation" tickets here in IL in the last 2 years. Twice on his GTP the last time on his Vette. The last 2 times he was stopped because they hit him with laser/radar and got no reflection. They also got him for tinted windows all 3 times. Each ticket is $75. or used to be, the governor just raised all fines.
I have my plate mounted under the plate cover which is held on with a velcro substitute. You can see the plate in the upper corners.

My fingers are crossed.

With all the VETTES in OHIO and show cars I think everyone should get together and lobby their state senetors to get rid of it some one needs to start a petiton at a cruise in and keep passing it around till its full and then send it to the state house. :yesnod:
