Just 100 days until April 1, 2021, the start of the cool car driving season for 2021.
Well the weather in November and December for driving our Corvettes and other go fast fun cars has been nothing short of fantastic in greater Chicagoland, and my C7 ZR1 and Viper have been driven on most days, But since some real cold weather is rolling in now in time for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, and since today December 21st is the first official start of winter (Winter Solstice), seems like a good time to roll out my count down thread until April 1st, which has always been the date in my mind where our Vettes and other bad azz go fast cars are out full time for the start of the 2021 driving season. Also, hopefully by April 1, 2021, things are going to be much better with the Covid being under control too. Until then, my beasts will be driven on winter days that are clear and salt free. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all and God bless everyone here and be safe. As always, I give all the praise and glory to God for all His blessings in my life.

My C8 delivery, barring supply problems, is late March and/or early April. Count down has some real meaning this year.

This year was mid March for me. Hoping for the same for 2021 but you just never know.

I finally got mine into storage a couple of weeks ago. I discovered that I possibly had a bad lifter just before putting it away in October. My Corvette tech suggested I have it looked at now and not wait until spring. After looking at it, they determined I had a partially collapsed lifter. Not bad for a car with 3,300 miles on the odometer. To be on the safe side, they decided to replace all the lifters. Seems to be a fairly common problem on the Z06. Fortunately, there was no damage to the cam. I'm still not sure why GM puts AFM on a 650 horsepower car. Anyway, my car ran great when I picked it up and I drove it right to where I store it.

Steve, Merry Christmas to you my friend good to hear from you. Wow, I have not heard of any lifter problems on the C7 Z06, thank God you caught this problem and all the lifters are being replaced under warranty. Will just be about 3.5 to 4 months now that your Beast will be back on the streets. Happy New Year to you my friend I hope you and yours are all well during these crazy times.

Thanks, Jimmy. I won't say it's a common problem, but several GM models have had problems with lifter failure because of Active Fuel Management (AFM). AFM drops the motor into 4-cylinder mode when below a certain rpm. C7 generation Corvettes with an automatic transmissions have it, but manual transmission C7's don't. The ZR1 doesn't have it either. I'm guessing Chevrolet did it to meet EPA standards. I did quite a bit of research on it before I took my car in. GM has had a problem with oil consumption on their Silverado pickup trucks for a number of years, which is attributed to AFM. Funny, but my car never burned a drop of oil. Anyway, it's fixed and is running well. Have a Happy and Blessed New Year.
Let the countdown begin, just 95 days left now until April 1st.

We can't complain here in greater Chicagoland about this winter so far, as it took until today, December 29, 2020, to see any type of snowfall that finally forced me to officially ground (for now ) all my go fast fun cars.
Let the countdown continue, just 92 days now until April 1st!

We only received two snow falls around 5" so far. Not bad for a December. All I care is that it all melts by mid March like 2020.

This has been a very mild winter so far as far a both snow fall and temperatures (higher than normal) I hope that trend keeps up.
