"JACK O'DONNELL CHEVROLET INC, Midlothian, IL
Jack O'Donnell Chevrolet was originally on the southeast corner of 147th & Crawford, Midlothian, Illinois. The photo below shows the building after being taken over and abandoned by a Honda dealership.
(Sorry, photo didn't copy)
They moved one mile west to a new building around 1966. The new building was located at 147th and Cicero. According to a 1969 Protect-O-Plate, reproduced on the CRG discussion forum Jack O'Donnell Chevrolet's official address was 14640 S. Cicero Ave., Midlothian. This forum was started by a fellow who collects old Protecto Plates from glove boxes of parted out cars in junkyards.
On the Midlothian Forum site old timers recall that as kids there was a giant slide beside the dealership that they could ride for 10 cents. A contributor named "Midlo history buff" quoted an old Midlothian Messenger newspaper article stating that the old Jacob Ludwig barn on the S.E corner of 147th and Crawford, later the first Cotton's Corner, was burned down in 1959. This location became the parking lot of Jack O'Donnell's Chevrolet. In the late 1960s a Sinclair Station was built on this site. It was redeveloped several times and is currently CVS parking lot.
The O'Donnell dealership thrived for many years. Owner Jack O'Donnell sold the dealership and retired but was alive during the various incarnations it subsequently went through. The dealership changed names to Arrow Chevrolet in the 1990s. Around 2002 it became Sunrise Chevrolet. The showroom was unchanged during this period. The building used distinctive giant W trusses to support an enormous showroom. The technology came from a builder who also did churches. Jack O'Donnell died shortly before the building was bulldozed after it closed doors in 2009. A Dodge and Ford dealer on either side of it also went out of business about this time."

He replied to my email stating that "Old man Phelan recently passed away in Florida and his son recently retired. that Phelan dealerships are now run by "junior's" son JC. Additionally he told me that Jack Phelan Sr used to be Jack O'Donnell's sales manager and was THE investor that funded Jack Phelan's purchase of his first dealership, Phelan Chevrolet on Ogden in Berwyn.
(my buddy quit turning wrenches in the 70's and became a zone rep for Buick up in Michigan then was transferred to Georgia about 1980 and covered part of Georgia and Florida. He then was moved to an inside zone office position doing some engineering work for Buick and Cadillac. GM bought him out AKA forced retirement about 8-9 years ago. Has several Vettes, Corvairs and El Caminos in his garages).
