2 weeks away, Sept. 7th It's the let's do something fun Galena Cruise
Open to all cars, leaving at 7:30-8:00 from Walker Bros. in Lake Zurich, We will be meeting there about 6 am and having a leisurely breakfast then hitting the road to Galena, to do some winery's, and walk the town.
We will be going through Crystal Lake / Marengo if anyone Northwest wants to join us in route. 176/14 intersection would be a good pick up point.
About a 2 1/2 hour cruise on IL 20. Rain or Shine, return home about 6:30 PM
Nice town, good winery's, nice scenic drive.

I am actually headed out to Galena this weekend with my girlfriend. Any recommendations on things to do places to see or restaurants? I've never been there

Eat the "Shut the Front Door" 1/2 pound burger at Dirty Gurty's Burger Joynt, buy the Honey/Jalapeno BBQ Sauce at the Galena Canning Company, and eat the carmel/cheese popcorn from the Kandy Kitchen!!!
'nuff said!

Good!
We drive out there about 2 or 3 times a year. We almost always eat at Vinny Vannucchis. (Italian Sausage Pasta is awesome if you like spicy food) Good for Italian fare, but once in a while we go to Gobbies. I think both have menus online.
We always go to the Galena Canning Co to sample the hot sauces and BBQ sauces. They have two stores, one across the street from the other, and you can sample all their stuff. There is an olive oil and Balsamic vinaigrette shop just west of Vinnys that lets you sample their wares too. Other than that, it's pretty much touristy shops, although the Dowling House tour on the east end of town is very interesting.
If you want to learn about the history of Galena, the Desoto house hotel has a library with a few videos that are played in perpetuity one after another. You probably won't have time for that though.
If you go south out of Galena you can get on Blackjack road to Chestnut Mtn. They have a double track Alpine slide that is a blast. NO RACING! You might have to check on the hours of operation though.
I wish we could join you on this cruise, but we will be busy on this one

Well I was out there last weekend. Gurtys was good burgers. Fried green tomatoes has decent Italian food. We stayed at a lake house off Lake Galena and it was great. Such a cute fun little town. The drive down 20 gets a little boring but I got a lot of thumbs up on the way out there. This is my vette and buddies 2013 GT in front of the lake house.

Sunday Sunday Sunday! Weather looks good for this day trip to scenic Galena IL. We will be meeting at Walker Bros. Pancake house at 6:30 AM in Lake Zurich for those early birds that would like to have some breakfast before departing. I plan on leaving Lake Zurich at 8 AM for those that want to sleep in a bit if you want to meet there. The first stop will be the Shell gas station at the corner of 176 / 14 in Crystal lake another good p/u point for those wanting to join in. ETA about 8:30. We will do a Bio break there. So about 15 minutes. Next stop for potential tag a-longs will be in Marengo at the 23/20 intersection. Again we will wait about 10/15 minutes for people wanting to join. ETA around 9:15-9:20.
From there it will be 20 to Lena where we will pick up the Stage Coach Trail to Galena. Anyone wanting to join is welcome, all cars welcome. PM me for my phone # if you want to contact while on the road or on your way.
I will be in my Black ZR1 so we should be easy to spot.
