Who is going to Bloomington Gold this year? From what I understand there is some construction in the area so things have been moved around this year. This year we are in Lot # 3 Booth Spaces B 315-317 & C 315-317 which is on the end of Row B & C just before the Car For Sale section. Dana Mecum and his auction has pulled out of this years show. He had to come up with about $75 grand to get out of the contract. Another part of a once great event has been lost under the new ownership.

BLOOMINGTON GOLD AUCTION CANCELLED
As the number of successful auction events on the Mecum calendar continues to grow, the Corvette collecting community has regularly been opting to buy and sell Corvettes at other Mecum auction locations in their respective regions throughout the country as a matter of convenience. Mecum now holds auctions coast to coast all year long, and Corvettes are a significant segment at all Mecum events as witnessed by their results on the block.

Due to these and other variables, interest in the auction held in conjunction with Bloomington Gold Corvettes USA has waned, and subsequently, the auction had to be canceled. This late notice is regrettable, but it is only because of Mecum’s unwillingness to have to take such measures.

Bloomington Gold Corvettes USA will continue to offer its great services with expert judging in Gold, Benchmark and Survivor Certification, hosting a swap meet/vendor area, a car corral and providing top-of-the-line Corvette enthusiast entertainment.

There used to be a substantial auction at the show, now nothing. It won't be the same whatsoever, as the auction was a very big part of the Corvette weekend.

Yes it is in Champaign IL. again this year, just like last year. I see and hear people complaining about BG Event and the turn out. The thing is, if you don't come then that is one less person there. Yes E-bay has hurt the swap meet area but it has also hurt Ford and Chrysler and all the other auto events even the ones at Carlisle. People now just go on the computer and look up what they want or go to e-bay and buy there parts right now. Where as BG and other events they held one time a year and people would compile a parts list and go to that car event to the swap meet area and hunt for and buy there parts. That is why people are getting there cars restored faster because they do not have to wait to go to an event like BG to get there parts. It takes the Corvette people to attend the Corvette events to keep them alive. The only think that really kills it are the people who do not attend, just like the Auction at BG. Not enough people signed up to sell there cars and now there is no auction. What will be next?

I will be at Carlisle in August and have 4 friends flying in from Austris to see me and they are coming to Carlisle then back home to Greenwood then on the road to the NCM with the Caravan the to Nashville with my friends for a few days then back home. Run with my friends till the end of the second week of Sept till they go home then to Funfest and relax for a couple days. They say that you have nothing to do when you are retired. Hell there is plenty of just Corvette things to do if a person wants to get involved rather then say I don't like it any more or some silly thing like that. We are only on earth a short time so get busy and have fun and enjoy it. I am going to. See who ever stops in at B G I just got the droped off to me today. I will have it on ice.

Bloomington was great, until they lost sight of the fact that it's us that made it great. They stopped caring so we did too.
