Any interest in resurrecting the Hines Drive Cruise August 27 or 28?
7.11.11: Please let me know if there is still any interest in attending this cruise!
I'm trying to guage an interest to see if it's worth resurrecting the Hines Cruise this year? Date would be Saturday, August 27. Rain date would be Sunday, August 28
Here is the details:
Be at the starting point listed below on Saturday, August 27th with a rain date of Sunday, August 28th. If you have any questions regarding the cruise, or want to email me privately, you can do so at: luvmy82@comcast.net.
The Hines Drive Cruise is a real nice drive the entire length of the park. I can keep the pack together despite three traffic lights. On this cruise, no car gets left behind. We all stick together. And no, contrary to popular belief, the park is not closed to car traffic during this time. (Hines is closed on weekends from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm for bike and foot traffic only) If it's flooded, well, that is a horse of a different color.
HERE'S THE ITINERARY:
Cruise Location Starting Point: St. Sarkis Armenian Church (located on the westbound side of Ford Road between Evergreen and Southfield Freeway in Dearborn) Address: 19300 Ford Road. There is a turn off/sign called Alter Road, which will get you into the church parking lot off of Ford Road.
Cruise In Date: Saturday, August 27th
Rain Date: Sunday, August 28th
Mingle/Assembly of Caravan/Line up of Cars: 3:30 pm to 4:00 pm
Depart for Cruise: 4:00 pm SHARP! (This time is necessary due to the large dinner crowd that begins at 6:00 pm. If we were to attend later, they cannot guarantee that we could all sit together at the outdoor patio)
End Rally Point: Deadwood Bar and Grille in Northville (where the roadkill is grilled at eaten!) . Address: 18730 Northville Road. Dinner and drinks out on the shaded patio. Located next to the Deadwood is a doctor's/dentist office parking lot that we can use to park our cars so there is no worry about leaving your car parked amongst the general population.
This is a real nice scenic drive, folks...and this is my 7th year doing the cruise! There are very few lights/stop signs in the park, lakes and twisting/turning roads which gives us a chance to stick together. The speed limit in the park is 40 MPH which is highly enforced by Wayne County Sheriffs. The Sheriff's presence is highly visible in the park. So unfortunately, there will be no driving around curves at 70 MPH.
Attending:

Vikinglover42-1
Dreamcruiser1977-2
cvette_67-2
bumble-z- 2
ylwfvr75- who will "be attending" but backing out at the last minute due to (fill in the blank) family function, and I don't drive south of 8 mile. ;-)

I don't know! Zack has the same issue with the Wednesday gatherings too! I think it's a combination of tough hours on the job, loss of job and income, family priorities, etc. etc. This is the worst year that I've seen for low attendance/participation! I know my work hours are hurting my abilities during the week to attend. But I am trying to keep my weekends open!

I'd love to do it too, Suzanne, but I don't think we'll be around that weekend. The joys and curse of having an "up north" place, somewhere to go but care and feeding, too.

Count us in at this point. I think we are open and I have successfully been able to drive Hines Dr. as it always seems to be flooded, but then again it was designed that way.

This looks like a perfect way to unwind. I am not sure if I am going to Carlisle. I would rather just have fun with friends. The last time Zack took us to Deadwood some people there complained we were too loud. And we were on the patio. Don't forget to talk to the manager and get him to spring for chocolate chip cookies for the table. Verna and I would love to join you. Larry
