Default 10 years on this forum 10 years of vette ownership

it's been 10 years hard to believe , having a vette a life long dream making great friends because of it . but it seem to be coming to an end as in life people come and go same here on the forum. the Chicago Crew has gone from a strong group having get together all summer long road trips , cruise in , fun fest , track events , drag races , car shows cruise nights now if we meet once a month for lunch. even that is dieing out with only a few crew members showing up . big fish BBQ coming up and Bloomington gold ! hardley any of the crew going to that . so I think it's time for me to move on . selling the vette that I don't drive let someone else enjoy it . it's been a slice I will be around for a while till it sells not going to give it away see some of you soon

No reason to sell the vette John...... sure alot of us (myself included) are unable to make events all the time but it doesnt make me want to give up my car, sure I wish I had more time to drive/enjoy it but when I do get the time it makes it that much better and exciting to me. I urge you to really think about giving up your car as I know you will miss it dearly when its gone.

I have been a vette owner for 14 years and have always been into cars since long before I could legally drive them. I can remember spending all of my free time focused on cars.... now I find myself with far less free time and when I do have that free time it has to be split up much more for family things etc...... Regardless of all of that I still have the same level of love for my car hobby and as I mentioned above it just makes me appreciate it that much more when I do have time for it.

With that said..... no matter your choice you will still have all of us as friends even if you want to drive a Yugo

I agree... it's the crumby weather today... owning the car shouldn't be about the people, owning the car is if you enjoy the car. the car only gives you common ground to meet new friends.. though you don't need the car to do that! as you know... Your NOT going to loose your friends you have wether you have the car or not.. so selling the car should only be about selling the car, and based on weather you enjoy the car as much as you used to ect...

We need to plan more events... not just one a month.. not everyones schedule lines up... so the more events the more of a chance for people to get together... I'm planning a BBQ at my house next month of course you are all invited, I will post details as time gets closer...

Johnny,
It all changes for various reasons. As you know I used to hit 4-5 shows a week driving a Corvette. I have been to one show this season in my car. I don't have the time I used to and if I did have the time I don't know I would even hit some of the shows I normally did with the current gas prices. If you do sell the C5 I am sure it won't be long before you are in a C6.

It's all my fault. Deb introduces me to the Chicago Crew , I show up at a lunch and a cruise , and Johnny wants to leave .

Please don't go John. Stuff happens, as others have said the weather has been s#!t this spring, other things crop up (my son lost an engine on take-off 18 months ago , for instance, and that chewed up several months of our lives), etc.

Now I retired and bought my third Corvette, thinking "Ah, all the time in the world to enjoy the car." Man, was that bovine deification. Lu (my bride) is battling cancer. Jackie is looking into her Master's program and I'm helping there. Scott is about ready for his Commercial check flight and I'm involved there. I am trying to get active in the Windy City Corvettes club, and my Masonic and Shrine activities are more active than ever. I have more going on now that I ever imagined possible, and I am balancing everything that I can.

Hang around, my new friend. I look at you as "my leader" and I have a lot to learn about the Chicago Crew.

Highest regards, Jack

Johnny,

30, 40, 50 and 60 year old men who have children, families, businesses, very busy lives, are going to come and go when it comes to an automobile internet forum. You will always have a couple close friends that you have met over the years from the corvette forum/hobby/passion. I have found out over the last 12 years that most American Perforamnce car guys (old cars and new) are great down to earth people.

That being said I know you are getting bored with your vette and now could be the time to move on and get yourself in a sweet 69 Pontiac GTO, that you mentioned to me you were considering doing (if you ever sold your vette).

Most know here (especially you) if I could keep just one of my cool cars it would by my 1969 Plymouth Road Runner, with its new 505 ci engine. That car is by far my favorite of them all as you know, and you know how much I enjoy bringing it to car shows (even though I'm working on my laptop but that relaxes me and keeps me motivated, and is my hobby). You also know how I enjoy diriving it around and hot rodding around town on the weekends, and you should see the 150 foot posi marks my Road Runner just made at my favorite local industrial site.

If your bored with the vette live a litte bro and get that 1969 GTO, hang out at some cruise nights that you enjoy, and then you will be called "GTO Johnny". Better yet, keep the vette and get a 69 GTO, as life on this earth in this life, just goes by too fast.

I hope to see you at Lombard tonight bro!

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my Z06 and Challenger, but my true love is my old school show and go MOPAR street brawler (which is so unique and that is just one of things I love about old school muscle, and being one of your best friends I know you enjoy them to. Three words bud " 1969 PONTIAC GTO"!

Hang in there bro and stay positive, you have A TON OF THINGS to be very thankful for in life!

Johnny, hang in there man, don't sell that vette unless you are going to get another!!! We have just hit kind of a lull this year that's all.

You know I am going through some real difficult stuff this summer, and I have thought about selling mine, but am going to hang on to it.

I am going to try and make Bigfish BBQ.. maybe we can ride togehter? I will PM you.

If you are anything like the majority of us, once you sell the car you will regret it. I know I did when I sold my '00. Is there any way you can just get out and drive the car more - I'm sure it can still be a blast to get behind the wheel and go for a nice long cruise.

Hang in there Johnny. I'm not quite as active as I used to be either, but think of all the great times you have had. "Vettes on the Lake" was one that stands out in my memory, and think of the WMC and others you would never have met if not for your involvement. I really don't know why the active "crew" seems to be getting smaller, but I see some new folks getting involved. I think a monthly cruise (with a lunch stop) might be in order, just like the old days when we would meet at Dave & Busters and destroy pavement most of the way to the destination. All I can suggest is give things some time.
