Default If your ever thinking about learning to Tune your Car

I recently took the Secrets of EFI Calibration Class offered by Greg Banish of Calibrated Success. I’ve got to tell you, hands down it was the most eye opening automotive class I’ve ever had. We were in a classroom for the first day. Greg started from the basics and left nothing out. The second day we reviewed and then were on the Dyno. Every tuner I’ve worked with before usually just does WOT and tweaks a little here and there gets you a few more horse power and calls it good. Greg started the work before we even left the classroom. Now you would think that an instructor uses a car he knows. This is where I benefited. Greg used my 2003 Corvette, a car that he never laid hands on before. He had the initial work done on the file he pulled from my car the night before and was only a few percent off the target. It was amazing. He ran some steady state testing and then made a few small adjustments. He only did 2 WOT test but those seemed like a formality. My cars drive ability is markedly improved not to mention I went from 18 MPG to 27 MPG in 6th gear at 70MPH. I can’t thank Greg enough for the work he did on my car. Also I’m driving my wife nuts talking about what I learned. Want to learn about tuning?
Take this Class

That's an awesome increase in MPG for 6th gear. Sounds like you and your car benefited from it. The wife, not so much

Sounds like a great class! Team LG did my tuning and I average 26 mpg in 6th as well. How much do these classes run?

Link edited out? No matter, just Google Greg Banish.

I met Greg at a Gingerman track day many years ago where he was running a turbo fox body Mustang, a really nice guy.

Ok since we only did 2 WOT pulls and the guy from mustang dyno was new and had problems with the computeri don't have solid numbers. Based on what readings Greg took he thinks im over 600 RWHP.

I plan on going to the local Mustang dyno at c-tech and getting hard numbers....

What do you think Dyno party

Ok so you had no baseline numbers to compare to? Did you at least get a dyno sheet printout?

If you don't want to spend the money on the class, he also has a book out. Pretty much covers the class. He likes to use HP Tuners stuff.

...............Engine management: Advanced

Here's another good class with a Genius for a teacher. He also has a book out on EFI and uses EfiLive.

EFI University with Ben Strader.................

If you look on LS1Tech.com too, there is lots of good info there too, along with the EfiLive ad HP Tuners forums. The hardest parts are trying to decipher which info is good and which is not so good. When I was tuning my old blown C5, I was fortunate enough to have some Absolutely Brilliant tuners help me by answering all of my questions (and I had LOTS of questions)!

It's Very rewarding when you tune your car and it runs better. By the time that I was done with mine (2 BAR COS EfiLive tune), my car got 28-31 mpg and put down over 500 to the wheels (A4 with a stall too). I was both proud of myself and ecstatic!

Congrats on your results and for taking the class! It sounds like you had fun, not to mention the extra performance that you got!
