There are plenty of hotels near me. We can make better plans as the date comes nearer. Whatever you decide to do will be OK. The important thing is to have a fun, enjoyable and memorable visit to the United States. Keep in touch. Larry

I would say, rent a car and drive from Chicago to Kentucky, taking route 66, very historical and you will see some great towns, also you can amke it to Deal Gap, 319 turns in 11 miles one of the greatest stretch of roads you will ever see. Good luck and have fun while you are here, there are lots to do and not much time.

If you come up as far as Cincinatti you should come up a little more and just cross into Canada so you can say you have been here!

I lost my last reply so here it goes again.

FUNFEST: There will be 15,000 Corvette there. That is why I think it is a must do and see. Someone already suggested making room reservations now. I would also suggest going to Mid Americas we site at www.mamotorworks.com for complete information.
Verna and I won't be able to go this year but there is usuallya good group from the FORUM that goes, so maybe some one can help you with where to stay.

ROUTE 66: We have traveled the entire Route 66 from Chicago to LA. WE started at Navy Pier in Chicago and ended at Santa Monica Pier in LA. From where you are staying keep in mind that St. Louis is a five hour drive and that is mostly interstate. Route 66 is basically under Ineterstate 55 and to be correct you will be driving on a lot of frontage roads. We have about a thousand pictures if you care to see them.
Seriously. While in Chicago you should try to make it to Navy Pier. I will find out when the fireworks are scheduled. You can take a picture of the sign beginning of Route 66 it is on Michigan & Adams Street. If you have time the restaurant Lou Mitchells is the unofficial starting point for road trips down Route 66. A couple of nearby stop would be the Historical Society in Joliet, Launching Pad Restaurant (Spaceman) in Wilmington and the Polka Dot Drive IN in Braidwood. These are all in Illinois and not to far of a drive.
You could probably stay weeks in Chicago and not have enough time. When you get here we have thousands of pictures we took along Route 66 if you care to see them.

Have fun planning your trip.

Larry

The US Nationials drag race, held here in Indy ( Brownsburg, Avon) is at the end of August and the first couple days of Sept. Its a must see for a Car nut, road trip. I am located 3 miles from that track, and about 6 miles from The Indy 500 track. If I am home ( am over the road ,semi-truck driver), we can burn a few steaks with the rest of the local forum crowd here,in my back yard. Hope you drink beer.,

I have a Sprint cell phone and it has good coverage. You need a cell that you pay in advance for min.

Jochen, might be hard to get the WMC down to Corvette Central mid week as it is a long drive and work day for most. Will keep watching this and see what we can do to catch up with you on your visit. Were you planning to head North towards Grand Rapids later after Corvette Central? If you let me know where you plan on staying on the 2nd we can get you some Hotel info.

Corvette Central will be a fun time for you
