Did some searches on Youtube and found a bunch of videos..
I've done all sorts of racing, but would be totally new to this. I have to say that I don't like the way the cones are
setup. Seems like it would be hard to follow the course without messing up. Or am I missing something here?

Don, since I've never competed in autocross... this is somewhat of a guess. But before any event like this, they first do a walkthrough of the course. And at each turn there's one cone that's layed down... pointing the direction you are to turn.
First timers at the start line only see a sea of cones ... (even with a course walk!)
That was my experience, and every first timer I've talked to since.
"good" autoxers have a mental imprint of the course, and can "drive" the course sitting still, with their eyes closed.
Competitive autoxers have figured out how to optimize the course by giving up speed in some places to gain more in others ... based on the course layout.
The goal is to get to the point where you are "looking" your way around the course and your driving movements follow your eyes.
And it's excellent vehicle dynamics/car control training.
I think the trick is... if you're gonna topple a cone - just run one of your wide tires directly over top if it. Show the cones you mean business (as you lose points in the process)...
they are now predicting rain on Sunday. This entire event will be over by 1:30... so if the rain is late arriving - the event still might go as planned.
it raoned last night, but stopped early AM. Righht now the roads are dry; but the radar shows another rain mass - about to hit IMO aboung noon'ish. I imagine it will start, byut may end early.
Yvonne and I will be there around 11:30 if the rain hasn't yet started.
