I don't know what you mean. I left Detroit 4 years ago for Chicago, and it's 1000 times better here.

I'm doing ok. We're getting our raises back this year so that's a plus. If the housing market would recover, I'd be a lot happier. I have empty houses on either side of mine. (The one on the left is in foreclosure and the one on the right belongs to the old lady whose kids put her in a home. At least they still take care of the house.)

so far so good for us.

i'm on a project that goes to July of 2010 (talk to me then ). We sold our house in October after only being on the market for a little over 4 months (lost a little, but saved alot on the new house).

like they say, the chinese words that make up crisis are danger and opportunity. you have to take advantage of things that are out there.

the things that kill me are the people that abuse the situation, i have a friend that is just walking away from his house. purposely has stopped making payments and is letting his house go into foreclosure so that he can move out of state. these are the a-holes that are screwing the rest of us with integrity.

i havent been able to find an architecture/design/shop drawing position anywhere in this city..... 2 months of not working and being self employed doesnt really help right now...... waiting to here back on a firm but more than likely they'll low ball me per hour and give me some b.s. excuse.....

might have to start a consulting shop or something just to even out my odds here...

Not to worry.
The Governor fixed the state's economy by raising our income tax.

I blame my great grandparents. They entered this country through Ellis Island and decided they didn't want to stay in New York. Sounds reasonable...who would want to live in that s#!t hole. So they started west and for some unknown reason they decided to stop in Detroit?!?!?. WTF? Why the hell not go on to beautiful southern California? Or at least someplace warm. But no. They thought Detroit would be the perfect place to raise a family.
That's just laziness if you ask me

I was in the auto industry for 30 years. Treated me pretty well.......but I also bought GM, Ford or Chrysler. No foreign stuff for me. West side of the state isn't too bad yet.

We sold our home in Grosse Pointe Farms about 3.5 years ago, and now live in middle Tennessee. We were quite fortunate to sell the home before things got real bad.

Like others, Detroit provided a good job, but as far as the city goes?

So let me see... one should stay without work prospects; high family stress possibly leading to separation, not able to make mortgage payments leading to loss of house anyway.....but keeps integrity??
Interesting concept.
Also, foreclosure is part of the system that the financial gurus set up in the first place. You are simply choosing one of the options they created.
Integrity??? What about the geniuses who set up the sub-prime system; played it for all its worth; made the big money; now want the tax payers to pay for the mess....that might be a better reference to Integrity.

So you are saying people should not fulfill their financial obligations? I am tired of hearing about the people who bought way more house than they could afford in the first place being in foreclosure. Sure pay for it until the payments jump to where they should have been in the first place then walk away. Great plan. NOT.
I know far too many people who cant make payments for the basics because they lost their jobs and cant find anything. And they have been out of work far longer than the 2 months the OP is complaining about.
