Default Dragway 42.....anyone been there this year?

I was watching for a cool night to go down and make a couple of passes.

Some one just told me they paved the track this year.....good...except it was a bad pave job and the track is rougher than ever.

The individual that told me this said they wouldn't even allow faster vehicles on the track.....he runs a 165mph drag bike...little faster than me.

I saw something on their website that hinted they are doing 1/8 mile on some or all classes?

Should I abandon making any plans for 42???

I have always been told about the long waits at Norwalk.....lucky to get one or two runs in...

At 42 you can run almost as often as you want, maybe 10 minute wait...

And 42 has Test&Tune a couple nights a week..

However I will probably look for a T&T night at Norwalk..still hate to see what was once the premier dragstrip continue to deteriorate...

I have heard from multiple sources that confirmthe substandard paving at 42. Not sure it would be an issue for our cars, as long as the starting line is prepped. That said, the place is usually very dusty. If all you get is 1/8, I am just going to Pacemakes - 15mintues from my house and actually nicer than 42.

Norwalk is the place if you want to get "your run", but on a Friday night TT, you might get 3 passes. I think the night a few years ago when I broke my LT-4 into the 12s, I got 4 runs on a Friday at Norwalk, so that was decent. The place is the nicest, best prepped.

Nitroussam and I have been talking that we need to get out to a track soon too, so lets all keep up on the weather and look for a decent Friday night!

Where do you live? I work about 10 minutes from 42. Used to go there a ton on Fridays when I was bracket racing my Nova.

I was there last month and drag raced for the 1st time ever and had a ball. It was on a Friday test & tune session and they also had street bike racing. Since then I had LG LT Streets installed at Carlise and will be going back again.
Here's a link to a video taken at Dragway 42.

Great video!!!

So the track was SMOOTH and not choppy???

What was the accident all about???? Related to poor track conditions & traction??

I know a couple times I got a little sideways shifting into 2nd and breaking loose....hopefully my drag radials will eliminate that problem.

Watch22, I work Tuesday night or would like to come.....what times/speed are you doing these day.....let us know about track conditions.

Your dyno is incredible, the horsepower is still climbing steep as ever at your rpm max!!! Wonder how high your hp peak would be at higher revs??

Thanks LT4BUD, This was my 1st time at Dragway 42, my Vette ran as if it were on rails so the track was smooth. Being a rookie at this I put my A4 in 3rd gear (running with runflats) and just stomped on it. The accident was with a Mustang, someone let their wife/GF take it down the track and she lost it off the line and put it into the wall. I went with some of my co-workers and we plan on doing it again on a Saturday, if we do I'll let you know when.

If you get the chance you should get in on a private track rental day like this: http://www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=103844

I did one at Norwalk yesterday w/ some of the GTO & Mustang folks; $22 for a 9am to 1pm session, got in 6 runs in about 90 minutes (we left after 90 minutes), coulda done at least twice that but let car sit in between runs for a bit. Didn't run for s***, but it was fun, low pressure day.

Track was prepped nice and a great facility.
