Default Illinois License Plate Question

All cars in Illinois are required to display front and rear license plates. I recently removed my front plate and installed the GM color matched license plate cover that came with my '86. The car looks so much better with the cover. I live in Naperville. Do you think I'll be ticketed for this move? Has anyone else made this change?

I haven't had a front plate on mine (since '97). Even when I got pulled over for speeding once, they didn't say anything about the missing front plate. I only drive it a few thousand miles a year, though -- not a daily driver.

I got pulled over twice in my old car for it...but got a warning both times...the last time was probably about 4 years ago...haven't had a problem in the Vette.

I haven't run with a front plate on any of my cars for years, like maybe 20 The 72, the T-Birds, the trucks, nada, zero up front. Wifey likes her vanity plate on the 95 so that one is there. Never had any problem during all that time.

I have had it mentioned a couples times over the years when I had been pulled over.. but never had a ticket for it..
Knock on wood...

I really don't want to run a front plate like most everyone as it looks like crap...

I haven't had a front plate on any of my cars for years. I've had a writen warning a couple of times for no front plate. I also had a "fix it" ticket in Arlington Heights, where I took the car to the police station with the front plate zip tied to the front of the car and they tore up the ticket. The only actual ticket I've gotten was with my Audi parked in short term parking at O'Hare. The Chicago police will write no front plate tickets for cars parked on the street. As long as you stay out of the city you should be fine.

I spend alot of time in Naperville with no front plates on my vette or two other rides that don't have front plates. It's never been an issue. I was hit in my Vette, police came, again no issue. You should be fine.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to leave my license plate cover installed as it looks much better.

I think you'll be OK. State of Illinois and local police are pretty lax on this requirement. They are so lax, sometimes I wonder why there is a 2 plate law anyway. Everywhere you look, there are any number of all makes and models of Illinois cars w/o front plates. Good luck...
