[SE/MI] Daughter looking for a car
My 16 year old daughter is in search of her first car. She does not have a lot of $ to spend, couple thousand at best. Of course all she cares about is if it has a CD player. With a couple grand to spend I guess about the only word I can request is 'dependable'. Anyone know of anything, lemme know. TIA

There are no dependable and cheap cars left anymore. How about a really cheap lease? Every now and then Chrysler has $99 a month deals on PTCruisers. I dunno about a downpayment but it's cheap and under warranty.

Hey I thought we were supposed to be friends? Isn't that the car you took to Gingerman where you melted everything and actually drove the rubber off the wheels? Tanks but no-tanks!

Thats something to at least consider. Most of the cars I've seen in her price range have well over 150,000 miles on them. I don't get it, I bought my first car for $125 20 some years ago, with the rate of inflation, spending $2000, it seems she should be able to get something decent. Oh wait, I remember me first car . . . ate every penny I earned.

You can get awesome deals on Dakota's and Ram's right now. The Dakota, although not the prettiest truck, is a good driving and decent vehicle.
They had them for $99 a month a while back but that was with lease loyalty.
Its better for her to get a new car from the credit standpoint, but then again the insurance will be outrageous on it since you have to go full coverage.
Insurance wise the cheapest vehicle to insure is a Jeep Liberty, followed by a few other Chrysler products due to their 5 star ratings. They run good deals on Liberty's and have excellent reliability.
All 2005 Chrysler products have built in MP3 players too.
Another thing to consider is a Cherokee. The 4 liter was pretty much indestructible and you can find used Cherokee's back around 97 when they came with the new interior for about $4,500. You can swap out the radio.
If your interested in a Cherokee let me know, they come up for sale all the time at work and generally have been maintained well because of the people who own them.
Guess who I work for

I bought my 17 yr old niece a '92 camaro, $4K, strong engine and was in great condition.
One thing you might want to do if you havn't already-call your insurance agent and get a list of cars that will have the LEAST insurance $ attached to them. You would be surprised what they list as a "sports" car when you are under 25 anything with more than 4 cyl usually haha!
good luck

I may be selling my black '97 Dakota here shortly. Yes, it does have 150k, but on the other hand it's had valvoline synthetic since new and the engine still sounds great & runs great (5.2 v8, by the way). Exterior is also very good to excellent (Had a guy this summer ask if I stored it during the winters). Has the nice truxedo top for the bed. Has an aftermarket stainless exhaust and CD player, but does not have power windows or locks. Air is cold. I'll be asking around $5k. Regards.
