Snidley and I are having a blast here at the Sports Car Driving Experience down here in Savanah, Georgia. We are driving either '04 C5 Coupes or race prepared Z06's. The Z06's are 460hp monsters with full roll cages, racing tires, just loud, powerful and addicting. The Roebling Racetrack is technical but has a straight that they say 140mph is possible without the chicane. We had the chicane today, and I saw a buck twenty down the straights.
We did braking exercises, heal toe exercises, slalom course, auto cross course, then full race track sessions. Ended the day with an autocross contest with the class.
Here are a couple of pictures, but we will have in car video as well.

I have a freekin' perma smile and am looking forward to tomorrow. Don't do this unless you are prepared to be completely addicted!!!

I haven't driven the Z06's on the entire race track (just haven't had my turn yet), I did some autocross and slalom with them. I will get a turn with them tomorrow, and we won't have the chicane in play, they say you can hit 140 but you are going to have brake late and hard. I saw 120 on the main straight with a C5 coupe several times today, but you have to exit turn 9 just right and brake late (and freekin' HARD and smooth) to see that. I did not spin out or put one in the grass today, but others did.
Man, I can't begin to describe how hard these cars can be driven! I am thinking about driving totally differently now, and I have another whole day tomorrow!
Later in the day, I was a passenger on a test ride with Henry Gilbert when he was testing his race Z06 and saw over 140mph at the end of the main straightaway. When I drove some laps in his race Z it was faster than the C5's, but to be honest with you I didn't have time to look down at the speedo.
I was at the Sports Car Driving experience high performance driving school, they have a banner here on Corvette Forum, look to your left under Driving Schools.
What a great group of instructors, I learned so much in two days it is unbelievable! I can't recommend this enough if you are interested in driving your Corvette a whole lot better and taking it to the limits safely, especially if you want to take it on the track.
(I was second fastest on the autocross course, the first woman that has ever attended this course was 1st! She had 10 years of experience in autocross with vettes, and was also the smoothest driver on the racetrack!)

It was worth every penny, and Savannah is a nice place to visit, very historical. We had breakfast and lunch at the track each day, in car video, the fire department came out the second day and watered down the autocross course, and we raced it without traction control. Even with the watered down course, most went faster the second day. You really can tell the improvement with each session, it all builds and comes together with each lesson. Very well thought out, and it is so cool to get so much one-on-one time in the cars with such experienced drivers, look at the instructors bios! Everyone was so nice and helpful, the equipment and cars were great, the track was technical and fun, all I can say again is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, one of the best "mods" I have done to my Vette yet.
I spent the 2 days at the school with Jim. I can tell you, he hasn't exaggerated the experience at all. The instructors are first class, and want you to learn all you can during the 2 days.
The Vettes they use are 99% stock, some down using the Goodyear runflats. I drove cars with runflats and with some other tires, and both worked fine. The race prepped Z06's are unbelievable-fast and went around corners like on rails. I though I could drive the Vette hard around corners before. Now I know that I was driving at about 50%.
If there is any way to pull it off, go do this school.
Was that you in the race Z06 that passed me on my in car video? I wanted to get by that guy in front of me but I had to let the faster Z06 go by me first.

JIM and FRIEND:
Great to hear you guys had one heck of a time and needless to say its clear you guys had a BLAST and are now that much better at driving a corvette the way it was meant to be driven!!!!
I am just about to sign up for the sat and sunday, May 14 and 15th weekend event at the new autobahn track in JOLIET as that is nice and close to home and will be able to check out both the two tracks in those two days!! YOU GUYS should plan on making this event!!!

Jim that is awesome glad to see it was a great experience. I've been down to Savannah several times in my youth (all my extended family are from Atlanta) it is beautiful. Gotta save my pennies to do that sometime.

I do believe it was. That Z06 was much faster and hung onto those turns like it was on rails. I lapped all three of the stock Vettes while I had my turn in the "race" car. I still have a perma grin from the trip.
