Default Gas tank restoration.....

My tank has been replaced with a Corvette America replacement.

What's the original finish of a '68 tank. The replacement is peeling paint already and I damn sure don't want it to happen when it goes back in. I believe the tank is aluminum.

Any suggestions.... :seeya

I don't know what the original finish would be. But if it is alumn... Then I would think that if you stripped all the paint off and just left it natural. that would probably be good....
Unless your going NCRS rules...then just ignore what I just said.... :D

Gas tanks are galvanized steel, not supposed to be painted at all!

PEELING PAINT???????

Did you paint it? Painting Galvanized Steel is almost like painting.....Oil. :D

Ol' Zinc chromate primer would be required. BUT............

The original finish is the ZINC of Galvanic treatment.

Just like the new reproduction tanks are. At least the ones QUANTA makes,
which are VERY VERY correct for each year.

I just put one in my '71 BB.

ENJOY!

Ja, ditto in my 68, can't tell the difference between the rusty, and full of holes original and Quanta....well, there is a slight difference, the Quanta is not rusty, and doesn't have any rusted out holes.
