For those who don't do Odd Topic (which includes me, most of the time) that is where Troy often posts announcements of changes or discussions for improvements. Recently, Troy asked for opinions on a couple of items- the Babes Section (not to be confused with the Corvette Babes Section) and Avatars vs. Signature Pictures.
The crux of the matter is, of course, bandwidth and cost. The Babes Section was costing hundreds of dollars of bandwidth and Troy going to have to increase server size again. Is it worth it when the Net is already full of more and better Babes with no restrictions? I guess not since the Babes Section is going to be closed.
The avatars vs signature pictures arguement wasn't quite as clear cut. Should they cut out avatars? sig pics? lose both? Modify current restrictions (ie: file size limits)?
After heated debate, here's the decision Troy has made.

I use to read OT, when I had a full T1 :D Now, on dialup :nopity I only visit FCR, C1/C2, C1/C2 For Sale. I think what you said is correct. If someone wants to see girlie pics, there are plenty of other internet sites for that. I wish they could bring back the Corvette Home Pages, for everyone though. Or, at least, give everyone 1mb of space to host sig files, Corvette Pics and things of relevent content.
Heck, I think GM, should throw in a few bucks for infrastructure, since we are their customers and promoting the heck out of the Corvette.
Mac, I'm sure Troy knows that in this type of business...."there are the quick and the dead".
Did you see that 27 page Juice Bar post in the Off Topic Section? It's locked now, but virtually nothing other than 27 pages of smileys and no text! :) Our O/T is better than that! :cheers:

I readily admit the concept of the "juice bar" thread and similar ones escapes me altogether. They can serve only two purposes- to pump up posts for those who desired a custom avatar OR to provide a forum for those who have nothing to say (or maybe both).
Perhaps the coming changes will address this. Here's to hoping!!
If getting rid of the Babes Section speeds up my Forum download time, I'm in! The old Tandy 1000 still takes a while to download pages, despite being on DSL.
No, Corvette Babes Forum isn't new, but the Babes Forum is fairly recent.
Corvette Babes is moderated by Sensei Earl and features pics of girls 'n Vettes. I don't think it's being affected in upcoming changes.
Odd Topic used to have quite a number of threads features girls but no Vettes as well as a number of political threads. About six months ago (am I close, 67!) Troy created new forums strictly for politics and Babes without Vettes.
From what I understand, the Babes Forum had been problematic as it contains many large file pictures and, despite repeated warnings about nudity and no links to hardcore sites, guys keep pushing the envelope. Hard to imagine, isn't it? According to the post by Troy last week, the bandwidth being consumed cost literally hundreds of dollars per month and, if growth continues, even more server capacity would be required, all so some guys can play peepshow. I don't blame Troy for deciding to close it down.
There's also another reason to close the Babe Forum. In order to maintain it's standing as a family oriented website (ie: not get bounced by the assorted NetNanny programs and corporate filters) CorvetteForum has to toe the line and, as a result, so do we. I know we poke fun at the poopie filter changing our words, but it serves a purpose and, to be honest, do we really need expletives to discuss Corvettes? If we want to play peepshow, hey- we're on the Internet already- there's lots out there. Why bring it onto the Forum?

Okay, having read the thread suggested by paintdaddy, I'm clear now. Corvette Babes is for people to post pictures of their Corvettes and their significant others. The old Babes Section is flat out gone. No more unpostables. No more 'follow the link' or anything even remotely naughty. Looking at this from the perspective of a business, this makes tons of sense (remember the Netnanny software and business filters?) so I guess you perverts out there will have to look elsewhere for your pleasures. ;)
I'm not surprised I missed that thread. As stated earlier, I don't do much Odd Topic time. I can only stand so much smarmyness, deliberate misinterpretations, smart-butt replies and smilie only posts (my own rhetoric excluded, naturally :p: ). I went over to Odd Topic to follow up on a thread & link Troy posted on C1-C2 but not to FCR about these upcoming changes to Avatars and Signature Pics. There were several threads, discussing different problems, etc. My computer time is somewhat limited (unlike some Forum members, I have a life) so I read the ones that looked the most pertinent and disseminated the information I found therein. Knowledge, to be useful, must be shared.

The best I can do is give you the sketchy details that I have. About a month ago there was a bru ha ha about the moderators reading the CF IM's, and some of them were supposed to be private, well I guess that was not the way to handle moderator powers, and Troy gave him the heave hoe.
That is about as far as my knowledge of the event goes....I am sure the George D. can fill you in on the rest if you ask him nicely...

yep you are correct, and Sensei Earl is no longer a administrator/moderator. I have no idea what transpired, but he is no longer here.
There will be a babes section, but will not be anything what it was before. No copy writed material will be allowed, only pics of girl friends, wifes, pics of chics at vette events like Hooter's gathering, etc. The present pics will be allowed to fade in the dust, they will not be archived, so within a month, there will no longer be any trace of the um.......er.......ahhhh...... scantly dressed babes

As far as the Sensei Earl thing, I did some quick research (isn't Google wonderful) and it sounds like it's between Troy and Sensei Earl; nobody else's business.
Troy & Co. should consider changing the name for the new Section from Babe Section or Corvette Babe Section (both which lead to logical but wrong conclusions) to something like Event Photos. Either that or eliminate these sections altogether. Let's face it- most of us will post a picture or two onto the Forum of choice but will we go to a section called Babe Section or Corvette Babe Section to post pictures of events or family? I don't think so. :nonod:
