In all fairness to Legendary, ALL of the options contained in the 63 only Z06 package were available separately in 64....big tank, J56 brakes, FI, HD suspension, etc. It is true that it wasn't called a Z06 package in 64. Chuck

If I read this correctly, that would mean a 64 could be a Z06, just never branded that way from GM when new?
Re: A 1964 Z-06...all together now......"Hmmmmmmmmm" (Robert N)
As Chuck said, all the equipment that was bundled in either the first or second Z06 iteration were available separately in '64, but it's still not a Z06, and describing it as such is misrepresentation.
The sellers would better serve everyone by explaining that is has all the options that were bundled with the '63 Z06 package rather than calling it a Z06. It isn't a Z06.
BTW, the minimum listed build quantity of the unbundled Z06 equipment sold in '64 is 29 J-56 brake options. This places an upper limit of 29 on the number of '64s that had all the other unbundled Z06 equipment, so the number of '64s that have all the former Z06 equipment is much less than the 199 Z06 options build in '63. No doubt this '64 is a rare option combination.
One other point is that Z06 required L-84, M-20, and G-81, but as far as I know there were no restrictions on the unbundled Z06 equipment available in '64 (other than the big tank not being available in the convert.), so, for example, you could have ordered the HD brakes with a base 250HP engine and Powerglide, but I bet that option combination was never built.

the FI unit shown in the photos is of the '63 design, with a chrome tube running from the air meter to the oil filler tube. '64 FI units didn't have this, only one chrome tube from the air meter to the fuel meter. this is either a very early '64 car with a left over '63 FI unit, or it's not the right unit.

Very early '64 L-84s were built with "375R" (recalibrated) FI units before the 380 came online. I think there's also a general correlation between VIN sequence number and FI unit serial number. It might be correct, but I'm always suspicious of rare option cars that have no supporting documentation on their original factory built configuration.

I saw one of these at the Bloomington Show last summer. Speaking with the owner, he said that only 2 '64 Z06's were built....
No, there were ZERO Z06 option cars built in 1964, but since all the equipment that was part of the two '63 Z06 package iterations was available separately in '64, there are probably some number of "equivalent Z06" equipped '64s. The maximum could be 29 as this is the number of J-56 HD drum brake systems built. All the other unbundled Z06 options have higher build quantities, so 29 is the maximum number of "equivalent Z06" '64s if one assumes that all the J-56 '64s had the other equipment to match either the first or second '63 Z06 interation.
Being as how GM did not track option combinations, I don't think that anyone knows how many "equivalent Z06" '64s there are unless someone has tracked down all of the 29 J-56 '64s and accurately determined what other options they had. I don't think this has occurred and may never be determinable since it is very difficult to verify original configuration unless there is documentary evidence such as production order copies or window stickers, and probably less than one percent of '64s extant are accompanied by any bonafide documentation that proves their original configuration.
Re: A 1964 Z-06...all together now......"Hmmmmmmmmm" (SWCDuke)
I have a TRUE 1963 SWC Z06 and the 327 L84 is 360 hp rated not 375 hp rated as described in the ad - and yes, in 1964 all of the "Z06 big brake and other performance options" were available as SEPARATE RPO items, but not as any package as they were available in 1963
