Default Checked out an '03 Electron Blue Z06 today....

As fate would have it, on my lunch hour I went to the Post Office and then down to Route 1 on my way back to work. I go by a Chevy dealer and right on the new car lot, next to the road, is a new EB Z06.

Being as I wanted an EB in the first place, instead of the black one I have now, I went around the block and pulled in to see how the dealer would react to a deal on the spot with my '02 for a trade. It has 10K miles and not a scratch, hasn't been out of the garage since September.

I went in and asked the salesman how much he would give me trade on my '02, and told him if I liked the terms I would make a deal then. He told me in broken English that he definitely could put me in that '03, no problemo. He then told the sales manager, who asked me if I wanted to drive it around the block, which I declined because of time purposes.

So he gets on the line to GMAC to make sure I am "worthy", writes some stuff on a piece of paper and told me he needed to get the managers approval before he can offer me the car. I said "Hurry up, I gotta go".

So he comes back to me with the deal of a lifetime. They will give me $35K for my car    and they would not come down a dime on the $52K for the '03, and that's not including 5% sales tax and luxury tax!

Such a deal, I tell you! :troll :troll I told him it didn't appear that we could do business; why the hell would I spend close to $20K just to have a blue car instead of a black car? I may be crazy, but I ain't stupid. :jester

As I said in the beginning, it was just fate that brought me and salesman together, I could see tears running down his cheek as he saw me walk out the door!!  Like they say....once with black, you'll never go back!

Good story, Patrick. Those one year flips are a killer.

You look more sinister in black anyway. :smash:

I thought you no longer pay luxury tax in 2003 ?

Your black Z looks great ! GM did have several EB, Z06's, at Bowling Green Museum during the museums birthday celebration - I go every year and tour the plant.

They were letting people try them on for size :D I sat down and the GM rep said "Start it up", I obliged and then she said "Rev it up", I obliged and gave it a little goose, She said, "Really rev it up to hear it", I took it to 6500 and boy did that thing sound great ! Too bad they didn't give test drives though !

Gee, I don't know for sure, but I paid it on the '02, why not the '03? How is the luxury tax structured? I thought it was a state tax, not a fed tax.

I donno how it works down there but up here your only paying on the differance of which in your case would be $20K+ so that wouldn't put you in the lux tax catagory in Canada, but then again we are talking about the government and missles don't pay for themselves in your neck of the woods.

Patric NO more luxury tax.

What does your car blue book out to did you check it.

Did you leave your number?

Right now its the begining of the month (wrong time to purchase a car,Wait until the end of the month the sales manger has sales quotas they have to meet, right now he is a fat cat because he has 24 more days to fill his quota sheet go back in if its still there a 5 buisness days before the end of the month and they are more apt to make a good deal for you.Trust me on this NO ONE SHOULD LOOK FOR A CAR AT THE START OF THE MONTH

As a salesman myself, I disagree. If the guy Pat dealt with today was worth his salt he would have 'worked' his manager... because 90% of the time you only have one chance to put a deal together. After that the shine is off of the customer and its all to easy for them to say nah!! over the phone. Let alone the fact that your dealing with the higher end for Chev and the commission chit is one hell of alot better than that of a Cavalooser or a nerd PU.... unless this guy likes making flats on everything he sells.

The luxury tax WAS a federal tax. It ended after 12/31/02.

Pillman7,

A "quickie" would be about an hour. Probably, 2 hours, if you want to take your time. Their displays change. The first time that I went, they had some rare midyears and C1's (back in 99). The assembly plant has public tours at 9am and 1pm, they last about 30 minutes. The plant is just across the street and worth it, if you have the time.

I imagine, this being the 50th anv., they will have some special displays. They are having some special events and for those, it will REALLY be crowded. You may want to check and see if the same time you are headed west coincides with any of the events. If so, allow extra time.

Have fun !

The only other bad news....Do you ever visit the C5 for sale section on here ?
The market is flooded with C5's right now, and the prices are not to your favor. Look at some of the ads... I don't imagine ANY dealer EVER paying more than wholesale for any used car. Your best bet is to hang on to it, or sell private, if you really want to sell it.

The 0 % incentives have really killed most used car sales. Probably a good time to buy, but not to sell.

:D Sorry
"'worked' his manager"; Been a little more pushy with his manager to get a deal.

"the shine is off"; The customer has had time to think about it and reality sets in..I cant afford it or the wife says I want a new kitchen.

"commission chit"; The commision print out showing how much a salesmen gets for selling something...per unit

"Cavalooser"; Chey's flag ship...Cavalier

"nerd PU"; A base Pick up truck with no options

"Flats"; The minimum commission a sales person can get paid for selling selling something.

And there is bb's, wi's, ups, wire pullers, roaches, ecp, propac, rustdust, pins, peaches, fni, dips, down, acv's, ...... And the ever popular "You want how much for your trade :D So whats the deal here...was it owned by Elvis or something.

Grey Ghost, Thank you for sharing the info on the tour time. I had roughly planned to allow about 3 hours time so that will work ok. I am about 9 1/2 hours driving time away and plan to leave early enough to get to Bowling Green by 1 or 2 pm. Thanks again.
