In the last week or so, I have recieved a huge amount of Emails with the sender being members of this forum, and all of them have attachments!
Obviously, I did not open any of them as I was not expecting any attachments and all of them had a message header with words like "thought you'd like to see this". This is obviously a Virus run amok and replicating peoples address book, but I have never seen such a volume of messages.
Have others seen this surge in such mail?
:seeya
It's probably the "KLEZ" virus. I was getting several a day a couple of months ago, then it slowed last month, but has picked up to several a day, again.
You can't beat AV software like Semantec for about 25 bucks a year. Everything that come into or GOES OUT from my computer gets scanned.
I learned the hard way a couple of years ago - before I had AV software - not to open an attached file, even it's it's from someone I know, unless the text of the e-mail explains the attached file in a personal way that let's me know it's not a virus, and I always thoroughly explain any attached files that I send to anyone.
I never open a email from some one I dont know.I also never open an attachment unless I have been emailed prior stating what is attached,I g
ot a virus from my sister in law last year and wont get one again.
I have 2 email accounts one is aol and the other is hot mail hot mail has an excellent spam blocker and it use's mc'caffery virus scan on all emails.
I also dont use outlook exspress because of its problems (I have heard of ) of being insucure(mail box's)
Every one be advised I dont forward jokes or send attached files
I suspect you made the right choice by deleting the e-mails, whether virus or not. :nonod:
I've had an increased number of Forum related e-mails since the IM function has become inoperative but I haven't had any problems. The ol' Tandy 1000's e-mail programs doesn't have any way to differentiate between e-mail forward attachments, image attachments or program attachment but luckily, it's obsolete operating system is resistant to viruses.
