Are these 1968 crank pulleys. If not, what are they?
Here's is the deal
1. Just took the what I beleive is the original crank pulley of my 1968 L-36. (Non air, Non PS/PB)
The crank pulley is stamped steel, has a number of 3921923BM: What year/is this correct?
2. I ordered a crank pulley from GM resto parts: its a rough cast iron pulley. It has the number 38996 then 60 BM, then what looks like a casting date on it of 24697 (or 24G97). It doesnt have a solid face like the one I took off. Its heavy, about a inch smaller in diameter, has three "spokes" (instead of a solid face), and the belt grooves are much deeper than the one I removed. It also has what looks like "drill dimples" on the face one on side to balance the puley. What is this pulley for? It fits right on my crank like it belongs there

Melvin,
According to my 1953 to 1980 Gm Chassis and Body parts catalog your original number pulley (3921923) pertains to a 68-69 (427) w/H.D., SP. H/PER. (1st design) or 68-69 (427) W/H/PER. (EXC 3/2BC) or 70-73 (454) (EXC. H.D. SP. H/PER.) or 74 (454) EXC. C.A.C). This is a two groove pulley.
I could not find the number for your new pulley in the parts book. The only number for a 2 groove cast pulley is 3863108.
This pulley fits 67 (427) W/C.A.C. (EXC. 3/2BC. H/PER.) OR 69 (427) W/H.D. 2ND DESIGN) OR 71 (454) W/SP. H/PER.

Melvin,
I have a '68 with L36 too. I just went downstairs to get my crank pulleys to get numbers for you. I have PS so I have three pulleys. However, it is actually two pulleys and then a third pulley stacked together. I think they added the third pulley when the car had PS. Anyway, the two pulley assembly number is 3848904cs and the one pulley piece is number 3883235ds. There's also a couple shims that are stuck in between the two. Probably to make up for assembly variation.
Hope this helps. My car is a December build and I'm pretty sure these pulleys are the original. I don't know if other part numbers were used during the course of the model year.

OOPS!! I gave you the numbers for the pulleys on the water pump! The crank pulley has two grooves. The part number is 3921923bm. It's stamped, not cast and is about 6 3/4" OD. Hope this helps.
