Default Trim code help

I'm having a difficult time understanding the trim codes as defined in the current Black Book. My trim tag on my 64 vert reads: 490AB. what color should this be and would it be leather? My other questions pertain to the tops, would anything tell me what the correct color should be for the soft and hard top? Also what would be correct for a date code on the top and where would I look for it . I'm looking forward to purchasing the Noland Adams book so I won't have to be so ingnorant. Thanks for any and all help.

490 should be red vinyl interior. There is no way to tell what color top came on the car unless you have some selling dealer information, like the order copy or window sticker etc. As to the date of the top, it would depend on the serial number of the car and when it was produced. A top dated one to two months before production would be typical.

To add to what Wayne said, if you're concerned about the "AB" following the trim number, those are "ECL's"...."exception control letters". What do they mean? Don't have Noland's book in front of me, but basically they denote variations within the same interior color.

Here are a few examples: If you ordered a car with power windows, the door panels would not have window crank holes.........a car with radio delete would not have the hole cut in the dash for the radio, and so on. They're all the same color but "different". Chuck
