While I was backing the Z06 into the garage Monday, the right front tire ran over a roofing nail, punctured through the steel belt and now it's flat. Z06's do not come with run flat tires, like regular C-5's do. The tire is a Goodyear Supercar tire with a 17" rim that's about a foot wide.
I've called 3 Chevrolet Dealers within 20 miles of my place (even one in Pennsylvania) and NONE of them can dismount the tire from the wheel to plug it from the inside. They all shifted me off to independant tire stores that do all their "special" tires. Well, none of them want to take the liability for the rim, since it won't fit on their tire changers either.
It doesn't sound right about the way Chevy boasts about their Mr. Goodwrench Service and can't fix a flat tire on the most expensive car they sell. What do I have to do, call the GM Customer service line? It seems to me the dealers should be required to have the necessary tools on hand to fix what they sell!!! :mad :mad :mad

Yup, that's what I would do.
Is it perchance still under warranty? If so, I would make sure and take it back to the selling dealer, and get his answer before I put the big dogs on him. Talk to the salesman or sales manager that sold you the car; hopefully, you still have a good relationship with them. :D
They're being jackasses...everybody wants to pick the low-hanging fruit and leave the harder stuff for somebody else. If that nail had happened on the dealer's lot, it would have gotten fixed that day...if not by his people, then cheerfully farmed out to a tire store with no questions asked. That kind of post-sale bs on a $50K+ vehicle burns me up, and that's why Toyota and Honda are constantly swapping the top sales position. :mad :mad :mad

FXT, my neighbour is retired GM Warranty expert (factory......not dealer). I was showing him the photos of the special Corvette tools in the '67 Shop Manual the other day and he noted that those tools simply arrive at each dealer at the beginning of a model run (along with an invoice from GM). No discussion about ordering them, etc.
You're a dealer........the tools come..........you pay for them. :smash:
Like I said, he's retired now. Who knows what the new regime is.

call the goodyear stores in any large city and they can handle it. i think there is a 800 # in your owner manual to call for goodyear.
Clem, I went to the site goodyear.com, and searched for the nearest Goodyear Store, but it doesn't end there. Then you get a dropdown menu which gives the particular stores which services "run flat" tires, not all Goodyear stores service them. The nearest store was 71 miles away in Virginia!!
Fortunately, I found a truck tire store 17 miles away in Waynesboro, Pa. that said they can fix it.... no problem, and I going up there now.
Ih8tolose, my sig pictures lining up was trial and error. You just have to get them sized the same on Adobe Photo Deluxe and then preview them here on your sig page. :D
Re: How do I get GM Dealer Corvette service? (FXT)
Finally got the tire fixed up in Pa, only cost $32 for an inside patch, such a deal I tell ya!! Yo '67, this is the small one up front, the rear tires are bigger!

FXT,
Sure is a good looking wheel/tire combo on those Z-06s. But an old-timer like me is still having a hard time getting used to all that positive offset on the later wheels. If I had 'em on my car I'd be tempted to turn them around backywards......
I'd be willing to bet you've got a lot less unsprung weight with those new wheels than have I. Oh well......the sacrifices we make for originality.
As for the mud on the Trail Blazer, as Frank Barone would say, "Holy crap, there's no way you'll ever be able to drive that '67 on your driveway!!!!!!"

Sounds like you need to hire one of the local grade schoolers with a metal detector and give them a quarter for every nail they find in your driveway. Damn, the insides of that wheel rim are sparkling clean! Drive the bugger will ya!?!? :jester:

Julie, I'm gonna drive it, if I ever see the sun again. I have a four day weekend starting tomorrow, and have a new bottle of Zaino to wax it. I refuse to drive a black Corvette with muddy water streaks, thanks to the construction site down the road!! :yesnod:
Re: How do I get GM Dealer Corvette service? (FXT)
I drive to a lot of construction sites. (The quickest way of coarse to get there is in a Corvette) Hence I get a lot of flats. Try getting run flats on black powder coated factory Magnesium rims fixed. Went down to Napa and bought one of those Tire repair kits with the two funny screwdrivers, fix them all my self now. Just not worth the hassle.

If the steel belt is puntured, I don't think the best way to fix a flat is to use an outside plug. The plug gets ripped up, when it's pushed through the steel belt. You have the advantage of having run flats and tire sensors to the DIC to tell you when the pressure is going down; I don't, Z06's don't come with that luxury.
I got an inside, one piece plug/patch, which is installed with a temporary shield to protect the plug upon insertion into the tire, then removed. When I drive the car to work, it's at 75 mph on the Interstate, and I'm not about to take any chances on the repair suddenly failing on me. By the time I stopped, the tire and wheel would be history, if not myself. :yesnod:

I could not agree more.Unless you do not bring the car up to speeds.A properley installed patch is the only way to go.
I have a four day weekend starting tomorrow, and have a new bottle of ZAINO TO WAX IT
For those of you not in the know.ZAINO is a wax that brain washes you from its great odor.Into spending days appling multible coats to achive a high gloss.
All kidding aside I tried the product and LOVE IT Use it on all my cars
