OK, here's the easy part: the car is a 63 Corvette convertible, but if you own the car, you probably know that.

[Edit: Sorry, Bill, the VIN is actually for a 63 Corvette coupe. My mistake.]

The hard part: The "motor serial number" you have posted doesn't make sense in the context of a 63 Corvette. You may be reading something as a serial number that doesn't have anything to do with the engine ID.

The pad in front of the right head should have a stamp that starts with an "F", followed by 3 or 4 digits representing the date, then a two letter suffix code which identifies the engine horsepower and transmission. The pad should also have a second stamp with some form of the car VIN number, or "111042".

If this "motor serial number" really is stamped on the front pad, then something is awry...post the block, intake manifold, and head casting numbers if you can, and maybe we can figure the engine out that way.

The "870" is the block casting number, and is the correct casting number for your 63 Corvette. That number is cast on the bellhouse flange on the drivers side. The casting date is on the passengers side. As ChuckS said, check the "stamp pad" in front of the passengers head. Chuck

On the pad, you'll have 2 sets of stamped numbers, the VIN derivitive and the assembly date and suffix. Your VIN derivitive will be 3111042. Your assembly date and suffix will be something like F0101AA where F is Flint Assembly plant, 0101 is Jan. 1st. and AA is the engine horsepower and trans usage.

In 63, the suffixes for manual trans are RC, RD, RE, RF, and for automatic trans are SC and SD. Chuck
