washes his own clothes? Me and the wife do ours independently. It seems that we have a great difference of opinion about how laundry should be done. She insists the white clothes have to be done separately from the dark clothes and you have to add bleach to the white clothes, yada, yada, yada.
Unlike her, I am not a slave to fashion, and the thing of importance to me is to get my dirty clothes clean and dry as quickly and efficiently as possible. Why is it so important to fold tee shirts and blue jeans, as I don't wear $400 business suits to work like she does? Seems like a waste of time to me.
About 4 years ago this argument came to an impasse, and I told her...just leave my stuff alone, we will keep two separate hampers, you do your stuff and I'll do mine. I just did a load a laundry now....EVERYTHING goes in the washer at one time for one wash and one dry, I don't care what color the clothes are and don't use bleach.
Ever since we have gone our separate ways with our respective clothes, things have been fine. Anyone of you guys do your own laundry and why? Just curious.
You're not alone. I do my own laundry, not all the time, but most of the time.
I drive my wife nuts because if I start working on something and things start getting dirty, I don't always stop to change my 'good' clothes and put on 'grubbys' and, as a result, I get 'good' clothes dirty. Same thing, playing with the kids in the yard. I'm not gonna stop everything just to put on an older pair of jeans. For some reason, that annoys Mrs. Mac greatly. I can live with it.
Since I generate a fair number of greasy clothes (a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do!) at some point, Her Majesty informed me that I was welcome to use the washing machine and clean it after I was done. I don't think it's a big deal. It's not like I'm doing it by hand on a scrub-board. Heck, I even pre-spot occasionally! I like to hang clothes to dry whereas Mrs. Mac likes the dryer.
Yeah, I do my own laundry. As I recall, it was something akin to a prisoner exchange as she ended up hauling the garbage cans to the curb (they do have wheels)......
Doing laundry is not a big deal for me, except finding times when the washer isn't full of hers or the kids' clothes. It's like my old bachelor days waiting for a washer to be open at the coin-op.....
Don't bother mentioning the word "ironing" to the Mrs -- she's never heard the term. For several years now, our ironing board has merely served as a staging area in the laundry room. She does do the pickup & delivery at the dry cleaners. Oh, and I'm the one who routinely cleans the lint filter, thank you very much.

Yeah, I do half the laundry, but not because we can't agree on how it should be done...Well, except for that dang fabric softener; I hate that stuff.
Women like to use that crap because it makes the clothes smell "good". Andy Rooney said once that fabric softener is how women mark their territory. :D I don't like it because it's sticky. I don't want it clogging up that 8' of drier pipe that goes up to the roof, cuz we know who will be up there with all kinds of air hoses, augers, and other industrial appliances trying to get it unplugged.
Whites and colorfast together, no bleach, and no freakin' smell-good fabric softener; jeans and black socks together (minimum lint for the socks); towels together; sheets together...it's no biggie. I usually end up refolding any clothes of mine that the wife folds...bless her heart, her folding is like a controlled wadding. I can't stand to put on a wrinkled tee shirt...even if it is finally going to straighten out in a half hour. Makes me feel slovenly. (yuk, yuk) :D
Re: Am I the only guy here who..... (Chuck Sangerhausen)
Yeah, I do the laundry too. Mrs. Chuck works and always has. Laundry has always been a mutual effort. I'm a "white load"...."color load" guy. Who ever (or is it whom ever?) gets to the loaded hamper first does the deed. It's no big deal. I'll throw a load in.....go do something else....then put the stuff in the dryer, OR over the clothes hanger wooden gizmo Mrs. Chuck has in the extra bedroom. Even I know that some stuff shrinks. I'm a pretty "domestic" kind of guy. :) (Don't tell anyone, but I run the vacuum cleaner too) Chuck

Chuck, what kind of vacuum do you run? My wife bought me one of them fancy Hoover uprights with that "Deluxe Windtunnel Technology"...it's got big block power. In fact, you have to be careful...if you run that sucker over the power cord, it will scalp the insulation off that power cord faster than you can say "DAMMIT!". (snicker, yuk, yuk)

I'm currently a Eureka guy. I'm licensed to operate Hoover and Rainbow too. I recently took some advanced training at the Community College, and am now licensed to run our new big block "Hoover Carpet Cleaner". Fill it with water and shampoo and go to town. Sucks the old water right up....like a huge upright shop-vac. Ah...technology. :) Chuck
Glad to see I have company Mac; it's little things like this that keep you married to the same woman for 23 years!!
Agreed, wholeheartedly. While still living under my parent's roof, I took my turn at cooking, cleaning and laundry. As a bachelor, I took care of my own. As a result, I was already partially domesticated so my wife didn't have to train me too much.
Patrick
I found early on that a color cordinated wardrobe is simply a matter of washing everything together. After about a month everything turns a subtle shade of brown..... :jester

Oooooo, man, that is so cutting edge...I wish my honey would buy me one of those big carpet "suckers". Maybe I'll drop a hint to Santa. :D :D
Hey, how many you guys clean bathrooms? Come on now, speak up...we're all liberated men here...What do you do about those pesky mineral stains on the clear shower doors? Ring in the toilet bowl? :yesnod: :yesnod:

Aw, Hvn, we're just tryin' to make Patrick feel better about havin' to wash his own clothes. Whadda' you do to keep from havin' to help with the chores...have "headaches" at bedtime???
Havin' to wash yer own clothes ain't so bad... it's when they throw yer clothes out behind you that's bad. :D :D
Re: Am I the only guy here who..... (Chuck Sangerhausen)
I hate to say it, but I do the majority of laundry in the house, I agreeed to do it a long time ago, I still do it bad, throw it on the bed un-folded, and she still hasn't fired me.
