What is the best way to clean & detail an alternator and mounting brackets for NCRS?

Mild soap and water, taking care not to destroy any ink stamps or the original surface finish.

Cleanliness accounts for 80 points out of 4500 total points in flight judging. It is not show and shine - why not get the car judged first? Cleanliness matters if it is so dirty that you cannot read markings (VIN stamps etc). Local chapter members can give you some advice.

Taking a pressure washer to the engine bay/chassis is a not good way to clean the car as you tend to wash away all the original tags and markings. Ink stamps are particularly vulnerable to excessive cleaning.

Try aluminum jelly and a brass brush.
