Default 63 with 2 speed rearend

did Chevy in 1963 try a experimental two speed differential on the split window? which used an allen tool to change from 4.11 to 360? i was told that they only put this in about 48 cars??

No - that's another "internet myth".

Later on Ford offered a two speed rear end - don't know if any were actually produced or sold.

It was for 1969 Cougar's and never made it into production.

Default just talked to him again

i just talked to this guy again and he owned one and that had a two speed differential. they stuck on the back of the owners manual the instruction on how to use the wrench to change the gear ratio, they only made like 105, and said back then they would installed a few things like that on some cars and you would not even know it, for experimental purposes, he said you need to dig a little deeper and maybe somebody out there my own one and don't know it.

Hello ,
I just registered yoday , I've pulled some great info from this site , so I figured it was time to start paying back. As a general statement from some things I read here today , after 44 years working on corvettes and muscle cars, Im sure I dont everything , but I have amanged to learn a little bit . The issue was a 2 sp rear end in a Corvette , in my opinion it never happened , And tru the years I have met people who wer at GM in those years , one gentleman mentioned they made one for the Cougar...lol...which is it's funny the things you remember , it was on the cover of Hot Rod , itas a 69 Cougar Eliminator if memeory serves me , and I have actually seen one myself many years ago.Its funny when they say (inluuiding me)..they don't build them like they used to...they were great cars , romantic a blast to drive , and everything else that went with that era...but the truth ?...by today's standards they were junk..nothing lined up , rattles and squeaks, horrible brakes , they weer in the bone yard by 100,000 miles, but Id take one over any of these new (sterile) cars of today..one last item was the fact that assembly line documentaion was horrific , many facts we will never know !..Thank you for the priviledge of exppressing myself ,hope my experience can help someone, drive it like u stole it
