Default 1968 Transistorized Ignition Help

Does anyone know what TI amp I should have "style and numbers"? I know they changed the style sometime in 1968.

I have the one that the pig tail plug screws into amp
I was told I should have the other type.

Does anyone know? Also, what is the correct coil numbers for the HP engine.

My cars trim is April 10 1968.

thanks 3b

Hi 3b
68 Ti amp has the Ti harness with the plug that goes in or plugs into the Amp. There is no wires with a plug coming out of the amp. There is a part number but I have forgotten what it is. maybe I can find it later.

The other type if the wire harness is coming out of the Ti amp then it is for 69 and up only.
Hope this helps, Grant

You Ti amp for a 69 should have the wires coming out of the Ti amp with a plug. The last 4 numbers on the Ti amp is 5343. 3b's 68 Ti amp should be 5005 I think,
Hope this helps

Are you sure?

I was just reading that there was in fact a later one although the article didnt give a number. It really said 65- e68 and l68 - 71 or was 72

I was told that the later amp with the screw in is cost a lot more then the earlier one and was used on a fer other cars and also planes

Thanks for the help so far guys

Never used on planes - they require an ignition system that's independent of external electrical power (magnetos).

I was just told that there was a late January rev on the harness and amp I was told the 64-68 1115005 was changed to the 69 style then? Does anyone know anymore about this and the new number? I was also told that the ignition was changed in march

Any confirmation on these ?

Yes, I can tell you exactly when the changeover occured, as I have the original instruction sheet identification No. C-955511. This sheet showed how to cut connector from existing engine harness and discard and how to install the new plug that would work with the 1968 TI harness to plug into the 1111543 amplifier module.

This sheet was issued on 4-26-68. So all Corvettes equipped with K66 magnetic pulse transistorized ignition systems would use the 1111505 style set-up up to this date at least.
