number correct motor info

newby here and im learning. hope this is the right forum for my question. i just bought a '72 ls5 car minus the mota. im hopin to make this a numbers correct car by replacing with a mota of the same year, etc. can someone tell me what engine code(s) im lookn for? im planning on building the motor up and increasing the HP from its measly 270hp. would this affect the numbers correct vette designation im shooting for? thanks

What's the time/buiild date of your 72? The code is in the upper right corner of the trim tag. The orginal engine in your car would have been assembled in Tonawanda, New York and shipped to St. Louis before assembly of your car began.

The time/build date will tell you the day and month your car passed the station on the assembly line where the tag was attached. You can back up the necessary parts dates from that.
