Default painting a 65

Got a call last night about painting a 65 vert. Are the door hinges suposed to be well covered with body color ? Or maybe black underneath with a light coat of color with some black showing ? He sanded the hinges and got down to black. Not sure how to make it correct. Hinges painted on the door or seperately ? What about the bolts ? Will try a search again but, no luck so far. THANKS>

Jack, The factory painted your car with the doors in place and at one point opened them to paint the areas you mention, including bottom of doors and bottom of hinges. Very little attention was given these areas. One thing that should NOT be painted is the courtsey light switch in the area behind the hinge. No wiring was in the body when it was painted. Good luck with your restoration. Bill

Thanks Bill. It seems they did some odd stuff back in the early days.

Not really. That's EXACTLY how all modern cars are painted today.

Yesterday I took the doors off my 87. I noticed black under the hinges so I guess some things never change. I guess I do not have that, assembly line mentality. I will paint the jams and hinges, then hang the doors.
