You will pick up 175 points for the corect casting date and 87 points for the correct casting date. Not sure if you will get points for the stamp pad finish which is worth 38 points. I think you will fget 50 points deducted for VIN and Assembly stamp.
As I understand the judging score sheets.
Is only one week prior to Assembly date for a block casting still considered acceptable w/ no deductions?
That's a pretty close call - there were only five working days between the date the block was cast and the day the car was built, to get the block from the foundry to the engine plant, get it machined and assembled, then rail-shipped from Tonawanda to St. Louis, unloaded, and to the line.
I'd check with the '71 National Team Leader first (Stan Falenski) - his contact info is on the inside cover of the NCRS "Restorer" magazine.
don't forget new years day I am sure was a GM Holiday.... so 4 working days..
I think the freshly cast block has to cool for 2 days.. prior to machining
it may not be a problem for the ncrs because it meets their criteria, but if I was a buyer I would pass on the car.. same is true the other direction, the ncrs says a 6 month old block can be put in a car and still pass... I would not buy a car with a claimed original engine, and pay original engine money, that was cast 6 months prior to the car build date.
