Default 69 Number questions

Ok
I have a 69 Coupe. It has a 78 small block in it now.
The rear end has big block caps on on side and small block on the other. the rear end must of been replaced since the one in there now says OK 314 W7E 1 so it is out of a 77 vette. it has the rear sway bar. transmission is stamped P8E08E 18NZ436067, the last numbers don't match my vin.
the tach is 5600 RPM.
on the underside of the rear compartment is 465 AC does anyone know what that means?
I am just trying to maybe find out what engine it came with.

465 is almost certainly the job number assigned in the body shop at St. Louis. Add 500 to it and see if 965 are the last three digits of the VIN. 465 or 65 might also be on the passenger's side of the tranny tunnel and down low on the right corner of the firewall under the hood.

AC is also an assembly line mark indicating the car was to have factory air.

Without further documentation, determining the original engine might be a problem. At the least, if the car was to have factory air, you know the original engine was not any combination which excluded air (L-88). Does the car have a factory rear sway bar? If so, she was an original big block. Can you see any evidence of the tank sticker?

The P8E08 says the transmission was made on May 8, 1968, but it shouldn't have the last "E" character (which was either an A, B, or C - "E" wasn't used); the 6th character wasn't added until mid-October, 1968, during the 1969 model year.

The partial VIN shouldn't have the "Z" in it, and otherwise indicates that case was originally installed in a 1968 Camaro built at Norwood, Ohio.

My 69 427-400hp has the 5600 RPM tach. The 427-390hp also had the 5600 tach. They are the only 69 engines to use this red line. Also the radiator core on the 427 was 27 1/2" wide. 350 was about 26. Core support will also reflect this. Holley equipped 69's did not have a fuel return line(400hp w/3x2), the Quadra-jet cars did(390hp). Also AC could not be had on the solid lifter 427's(435hp, L88). The factory rear axle for 427 and 4-speed w/ac would be a heavy duty 3:08 with AW code.

the radiator is 27.5 inches. I will check on the return fuel line. I do plan to drop the tank but i am almost sure nothing is there.
I guess without the tank sticker it really doesn't matter what engine it came with.

The tank sticker is definitely a nice piece of documentation to have but it is also important as to what engine the car was originally equipped. From all indications your car appears to be a 427 coupe with factory AC and 4 speed, a desirable combination and worth significantly more than a small block coupe. This alone would be a big factor for me in determining what to do with the car as far as restoration. Find a 427 block with the right casting #'s and dates 1 week to 6 months before your car build date and you are on your way.

It does look like it has a return fuel line, 1 line goes to the bottom of the tank and the other goes up high and out of my view

Here is a link I ran across on another site http://www.ncrs.org/forum/archive3.cgi?review=13970
This site is useful to research other aspects of your car. Their archives have a ton of information.

Nope. Most likely a replacement.
