Default 1972 Rpo- Po2

Was the 1972 PO2 wheelcover center piece changed to a flat piece with crossed flags on a red background from the 1971 raised center piece with crossed flags on a black background and chrome trim ring?

I'm trying to find out what is correct for my 72 (build date 01/1972; Sold by a dealership in Oakland, CA.)with option PO2 and I keep finding two different types of PO2's.

Thanks,
Tim.

If nobody here knows for sure, try the General Corvette / Factory Correct Resto forum or http://www.ncrs.org/

No. All Corvette P01/P02 wheelcovers have the raised center caps with the crossed flag emblems on a black field. The reproduction caps currently available are the P02 style. P01 caps are slightly different.

The flat caps where used on other GM applications (Impalas, Caprice, etc). Same wheelcover, different cap. None of the flat caps were used on Corvettes. Lots of sellers on eBay have the flat cap wheels and list them as Corvette. Buyer beware.

You want the P02s with raised center caps.

A photo would help but if you are talking a flat crossed flag section versus a raised flag center section, then the answer is no, they didn't change. Iirc, Monte Carlo's had a similar looking wheel, the only difference being that the Corvettes center section has a definite lip on it while the Monte doesn't. A few folks are trying to sell PO2s on eBay claiming them as Corvette when they actually are from other cars.

Here is an example of what I am talking about. These look like original Corvette PO2s.
