Default 68 exhaust manifold stuf question

one I took off was in the shape of a bolt head with flange

bought the entire bolt kit from paragon...the stud looks like this though http://corvette-paragon.com/catalog/...6-744FF052B827

is that correct? or should I use the one I took off which looks like the head of a bolt with a flange?

thanks

I can't find any info in the 68-69 judging guide. I would reuse the bolt that came off the car if you think it is original.

That stud is for the alternator bracket if you have power steering.

Otherwise you do not need it.

Knowing Paragon, I would say their stud is correct. The question is whether it is correct for your car. Do you have the AIM? If a stud replaced a bolt in an application which differed from regular production, it will be noted in the AIM, will have a part number, and an AIM diagram will probably show where it went.

As an example, AC small block cars have a stud replacing one of the RH exhaust manifold bolts in order to mount the compressor bracket. Non AC cars (regular production) do not have the stud. The stud is shown in the AC options section of the AIM.

The exh manifolds on my 69 are attached mostly with flanged bolts. As the others on here are saying, sometimes when gm needed to use the same bolts which attach the manifolds to attach accessories such as AC compressors or generators ect. they used studs like you have shown in your link. I think mine used some for the AC comp mounting. I looked up the stud using the gm part number in your link in my GM corvette parts catalog. It shows in a BB alternator mounting illustration to use that same stud in the front left manifold hole for mounting one of the alternator brackets on BB's with power steering. That might be your answer.

yes, I know that however the one that came off the car I assume is the correct one but is different than the one that came from paragon.....wanting to know to use paragons or mine that came off the car. It's a original GM type bolt/stud.

hell I'll just post pictures comparing both soon then someone surely could tell me

Sorry if my other post added more confusion. I now understand you are looking to determine the "correct" stud. This peaked my curosity and prompted some research. It appears the answer is not as cut and dried as it would seem. Could be both types are correct. Take a look at this link http://www.ncrs.org/forum/archive1.cgi?review=9341
and you'll see what I am referring to. You may have to cut and paste it to your browser. If you haven't been to this site before, the bottom half has the responses and is meant to scroll.

Here is a pic comparing the two, obviously the rusted up one is the one that came off the car and the black stud bolt is the new one. This came from paragon but I think the one that came off the car is the correct style. Does anyone know for sure? if the old one is correct I will just use it..thanks!
