Default 1968 Core Supports

Looking to find or be told information regarding the core supports for 1968 cars, specificly early cars. What were the 327 and 427 core supports and what did they look like. Was the L-88 core support different than the 427 core on the early cars. Also did the core support change to the 69 type at some point during the model year? Does anyone have any definitive data on the 68's in this area?

I have two 1968 core supports. One is for a small block with a/c, which I have been told, is the same as a big block core support.

The other core support is for a small block with aluminum radiator.

Correct as I understand it. The AC smallblocks and the AT smallblocks got the big 4 row Harrison radiators, supports, and shrouds used on the L-36 big block cars. No surge tanks with these radiators.

Also correct as I understand it. This application is supposed to be a different support. Fan shroud should be the round steel version.

I'd be willing to bet JohnZ or Joe Lucia with the NCRS would know for sure.

That's correct. '68 small-blocks with 4-speeds and without A/C used the same aluminum radiator and expansion tank as the midyears, with the "pin" mounts at the bottom. Small-blocks with A/C or automatic transmission used the copper/brass radiator with the "saddle" lower mounts and no expansion tank. Two different radiator supports, as the lower "saddle" mounts were welded to the support, the lower "pin" mounts used a different lower channel, and the upper mountings were also different.

Can anyone post a pic comparing the two? What does that lower channel look like and how do the pin mounts look. I am guessing I have a pair of 68 SB supports, but am not sure.

If I get a chance to go by my parts storage location I can get a pic of the bb or sb with a/c support. Post a pic of your sb with alum. rad. supports. I'm sure somebody here can tell you what you got.
