Aluminum valve covers 76 L-82

I have a 76 L-82. The aluminum valve covers look like they have a coating on them that has yellowed with age. What did the covers look like new? Were they polished or dull? I would like to clean them up but keep them original looking. Thanks

they were bare aluminum.

unless its a l-82 with fins it a l-48 and they were painted chev ornge
