About to buy valve covers for my 68 some expert advice needed
Hi, my 68 has what I assume is the original valve covers (sure look original) and by my NCRS book a 68 big block was capable of having THREE different styles of valve covers (it's worded a bit confusing) I can't hardly tell by reading the describtion in the NCRS book which style my D07 dated 68 is supposed to have. D07 I know stands for Nov. 7th of 67 was the day my car was painted so it probably left the line the 8th so if someone has a NCRS book and is familiar with 68's here are pics of my valve covers.
by the pics and the info above I would like to assure these are the right ones because I'm either going to pay to have them rechromed with flahs chrome (about 500 bucks) or buy paragons very very original like replacements (also about 500 bucks).
so which of the 3 styles are they and are they the right style for a NOV. 67 1968 car before I pay to get them redone of replacements like them. thanks so much!
*they do not have a recessed corner but the left one does have a slant at the rear*
Rechrome the originals. They are original and repros are repros. A good NCRS judge will know repros. Unless there is something wrong with the originals I would keep them.
thanks for the thought, just scared they will look wavy and not have the flash chrome appearance/average chrome quality.
Just a further note. You have original 68 B/B valve covers. You cannot get them flashed chromed again. When they strip it, the pores will show and flash chroming will not cover the pits. It will look like crap. I had thought I had 3 really nice pairs that I tried to get flash chromed, I didn't see any pits at all but when stripped the valve covers due to age and all pandora's box opened up. Pits showed up when I never saw them in the first place before stripping. I can see your's having rust. FLASH CHROME will not cover the rusted marks on the covers. I had to get mine triple nickle and chrome plated. The nickle will cover the small pits. Unfortunately not the same as Flash chrome but better than nothing. If you had an absolutely mint original pair that has some super ficial scratches then I wold think it would be able to flash chromed. I fortunately have a pair of NOS 68 B/B valve covers that have the original flash crome and will use them on my car when restored. Hope this helps out.

thanks, seems like they can be prepped and whatever done to them so they can be flash chromed, but maybe not? paragon sells some just like me that are flash chrome, drippers etc... for $490 I might go that route.

Well as the story goes. Repops are not the same. If paragon sells flashed chromed ones and has the double lip around the valve cover edge then go for it and let me know. I'll buy a pair. Take a good look at your valve covers and see the double lip. Have I confused you further?? I'm sure nobody repops the same as originals.
