He's just one of dozens who traffic in that stuff. Unfortunately, it isn't illegal, as none of that paper constitutes the legal identification for the car - only the VIN plate is the legal ID. That's why paperwork isn't judged either by NCRS or Bloomington Gold.
Faking cars and their paprework is as old as the hobby. With today's computers and high quality printers it is getting more and more common. It is cheating, falsifying, grossly immoral, but not illegal. Not suprising considering what is happening in the world today. Steriod usage in sports, politions filling pork barrel legislation, the president lying about weapons of mass destruction to justify invading Iraq, Clinton swearing he didn't have sex with Monica, with that in mind falsifying papers on a 40 year old car so you can cheat some trusting guy out of $30,000 seems pretty tame by comparison.
Saw a show on cable other day called something like "From junkyard to riches" or something like that where this fabricator called White went out to find a Plymouth Road Runner tp restore. Well he finds one but it is too far gone to restore so he buys a Satalite from the same guy and pieces the two together. While doing so he decides that he could make more money if it was a GTX. So he makes it a GTX and takes it to some auction and sells it for $78,000. The guy who buys it is thrilled. He doesn't know that this ar started out as a plain jane Satalite. Wait till he turns on the TV and sees what he really bought. No one seemed to think there was anything wrong with that.
Pardon the rant but I am a little sick of this BS>
Anyone selling aged "perfect" docs for enjoyment purposes only is no better than those selling kid porn or drugs to kids. Anything for a buck! We have pretty much lost our core values, haven't we?

Tell all the Kurds in Iraq that were gassed that he had no weapons of mass destruction. Tell the French,Russian, Chinese and every sigle intelligence agency in the world.
I agree with everything else you mention. I do not trust today's politicians either. Vote all the bums out!
I know this is a corvette site but I am sick of all the BS too.

While I agree with your complaint concerning fake paperwork in the Corvette market many do not ascribe to your political views. If the decisions on how to deal with terrorists were left up to folks like you our wives would be afraid to go to the mall for fear of being blown up. You do realize we are fighting and killing them on their soil and not here. If you feel like taking the opportunity to interject your political beliefs please do it over in the politics and controversy forum from now on.
...I'm getting to the point where there are now so many restoration shops, repro parts, forged documents---to me, it's getting to the point "...does it really matter???"
...I myself would love to have a "clone" '69 COPO or Yenko if it was done right(with all the aged documents )to drive to shows and cruise-ins. Keep the originals at home or in museums. People are too dumb to know the difference between a fake and a real one, so "does it really matter???"

It only matters to your own personal sense of accomplishment and perhaps the ability to retain or increase in value if that is important and to some it is. High value is the icing on the cake. As much work and effort these things require to do correctly it makes it kinda nice to have something of value afterwards in addition to all the other qualities one derives from Corvette ownership.
With the high dollar value of true originals, imposters will always be available. Recently, even known faxcimilies have been bringing high dollars. I only take issue with cars portrayed as the original. To me, this seems fraudulent.
But I also understand that cars are a commodity and trade hands frequently. The original copycat builder may have had the best of intentions when creating an copy (GTX, HEMI, L-88, SS, etc ad infitum) form a base or similar model, but after time, inevitably some owner in a string of owners believes he has the original (complete with paperwork), and you can't convince them otherwise. So, two sayings come to my mind, one already stated, "Caveat Emptor" and the other "A fool and his money are soon parted." I can't feel sorry for anyone who spends six figures on a car without doing their homework first.
Let's please leave any political discussions out of a restoration forum .

After reading this post it occurred to me that the only "political attacks" Appear to me to be yours. Which after your comment you made your political preference pretty clear IMO.
Where in the case of Red70vette's comment, I have not a clue. As he seemed to be careful and made negative comment about both Republican's and Democrat's
All I came away with after reading his comment is a guy that is frustrated with the "moral climate" now days.
I think you may need to listen to you own comments.
Again I feel that too much has been read into Red70vette comment.
I do not mean to offend or "high jack" this thread. But you guy's IMO
are a little politically up tight.
I did not see anybody jumping on the steroid issue, so why bring up the politics
As for the comments by a560165, well there just FUNNY I don't care who you are
