Default 68 7" inch wheel judging question

I'm restoring a '68 to NCRS specs. The original 7 inch wheels are long gone. I see in vendor catalogs (Corvette America, for example) new OEM sets are sold. Will these pass judging standards? I know I'll need a date coded wheel for the spare but if the trim rings aren't taking off for the other four would the OEM set be OK?

Also, If a car is eqiupped with red stripe tires would the spare also be a red stripe tire?

Thanks for any input. I've just joined the NCRS and it is all a learning process. I do have a '68 judgine guide but it didn't address my questions.

Thanks,
Mark

A date-coded spare will set you up - that's the only one with the date visible during judging (you will not be asked to remove a trim ring). The spare tire doesn't have to match the ones on the four road wheels - it's judged separately on its own merit.

Suggest you also buy the "Corvette Judging Reference Manual" at the NCRS site (www.ncrs.org); it covers the judging process and philosophy in great detail, including all the standard deductions.

Mark

If you are interested, I have a '68 rim with a redline tire (original) that I would sell.

I have a set of four 7" rally rims (with old tires). Three are coded for Corvette and the 4th is uncoded, but the same offset.

If interested get back to me and I'll check the codes.

I am interested in buying a set of 15x7 rally wheels with the "AG" code stamped near the valve stem for restoration of a 68.

Make sure you get the right Argent Silver paint to paint the wheels if you are going to NCRS specs. I am not sure about the color on 68's. I know the 69 Argent Silver is a greenish grey whereas the 67 Argent Silver does not have the greenish tint. They take a point a wheel for the wrong color. I ended up having to go to OEM paints to get the right color for my 69.
