I have two sets of Goodyear Eagles, one set has TPC SPEC.1032 on the sidewall under the tire size and the other set does not.
Is there any truth that the set with the TPC SPEC.1032 on it is from the factory and the one without are tires sold through Goodyear dealers as a replacement.
Also would the tires without the TPC SPEC.1032 be correct for a 81 corvette.
Would it make any difference if the car was being judged like at the Bloomington Gold event with these tires on.

Just saw your post - My '81 Vette has the original factory installed Eagle GTs and they do have the TCP SPEC 1032 on the sidewalls. Replacement I bought through Goodyear store (for an extra) does not have the TCP SPEC on the sidewall. Since no one makes WOL Eagle GTs, I do not believe it would make any difference re: Bloomington as long as all four on the car are the same. i.e. - do not mix TCP SPECs with non TCP SPECs. Do you have any "extra" GTs you would consider parting with? Let me know. Thanks.
If you have 4 good TCP SPES tires, I would use them for Bloomington. (Hope you were not referring to this past weekend's meet. If so, sorry I did not respond sooner.
The "TPC" spec stands for "Tire Performance Criteria", which is a set of performance standards GM issued to the OEM tire manufacturer based on that manufacturer's advance tire submission passing the GM tests to qualify it as an original-equipment tire. That ID is required on tires originally supplied to assembly plants for OEM use, but is seldom seen on replacement tires, as they are not the same construction as the OEM tires (although they may look the same).
I want to thank everybody that replied, now i just have to figure out what to do.
As luck would have it if i pick the best four tires i will end up with 2 with
the TPC spec and 2 without.
Well somehow i will figure it out and then decide what to do with the other eagles.
Thanks again.

Please send me a Personal Message when you decide what you want to do with the other eagles. Thank you!
hankhenry, if I'm remembering this correctly, the "replacement" ones will have that "safety warning" embossed on them like newer tires do that I believe originals didn't. Also, original tires have a pretty clearly defined date on them. I haven't been able to decipher the date code on newer "replacement" GT tires. Originals will be dated in a "depressed molded" area that looks like an oval or racetrack. Usually it's a four digit number that reads like "0121", which in this case would be 12th week of production, 1981. Another example would be 0042, or 4th week of production, 1982. I do not think this would really hurt that much for Bloomington type judging, as long as you had four matching tires, but for like NCRS Bowtie type judging, where the tires are judged for "Originality", then it would matter.

undefinedI was reading through the threads and saw the Goodyear Eagle GT question. Where can I find the going rates on OEM tires? I have a set of brand new Eagle GT 255/60/15s that I've been storing on rims in a controlled enviroment, (on a rack in my 65 degree, 55% humidity basementon ) from a project car gone bad twenty something years ago.

Please send me an e-mail to dumpster900@yahoo.com. There is no "going rate" on these tires. Let me know where you are located in the e-mail. Thanks!
