Default Pics of mint 89 wheels?

Just polished mine...Thinking of taking them back down to a factory finish and reclearing them. Problem is, mine were so shot I don't know how far to sand/buff them to make it look right, as the clear changes the appearance a bit. Any experts? I'll post the thread for reference

Thanks in advance. This is too much work to be doing over

I'll take a look Sunday at the NCRS show in Atlantic City - if there are any 89s, I'll get some wheel shots for you.

That would be great, I'd appreciate it. I think if I sand these back down, I can work my way up to the factory sheen and then clear them. They are missing the machining marks, but I'm not concerned about that. I think the only way these would look good polished is to do the coves and put plenty of clear on to tone down the "bling factor". Thing is, once the coves are ground on, there's no bringing the cast look back. I like the clean subtle look. Don't like to attract attention from the man....

Sorry, the only 1989 I saw at the Kerbeck show had what the owner called 'over-detailed' wheels.

A previous owner had the face and lips (not coves) on my red '89
polished. I think the combo looked better than the stock
finish and I received favorable comments from others. But then
my friends and I are partial to floppy felt hats and capes, too.

All moot since the OEM '03 Z/06 wheels went on the car.

As to your desire to go back to OEM - if you don't already
have an answer, why not drop a dime and call Gordon Killebrew
at 1-800-398-3883. If he doesn't know how the OEM wheels
were finished, his contacts will. If there is any magic, perhaps
he can connect you with an outfit capable of restoration.

Well, I gave up on trying to save the machined finish.. Biggest mistake when removing the clearcoat was scrubbing it off woth Scotchbrite which scratched the wheels. At that point I decided to polish them. Should i want a more stock finish I can always use, say an 800 grit paper and dull it a bit and then clearcoat the wheels. There won't be any machining marks, but thats OK. Thanks so much for the responses and Killebrew's phone#
