Default '72 Front stablizer bar color-Gray or Black?

Redoing the front suspension on my '72 w/ smallblock. The front stabilizer bar (3/4" dia.) appears to have come from the factory finished in semi-gloss black. I'm wanting to refinish it while it is off but my NCRS '70-'72 Judging Manual specifies the correct finish as being gray. Keep in mind that this is a first edition manual circa 1985. Does NCRS still claim gray as being the correct color on a '72?

My JG third edition 70-72 states "The finish of the bar can be as-forged or dipped semi-gloss black".

My 71 s/b's bar is as-forged.

Thanks GG. Looks like the JM first edition was way off! Semigloss black it is then.
