Hi:

I'm trying to track down the car my 427 was in originally .... I have the last 6 digits from the engine (that relate to the VIN of the car) and believe it to be original stamping. My '66 was originally a small block car that was converted to BB [before I bought it] .. and the 427 came from a later car, and I wonder if that car is still out there .... I've been looking in the NCRS Driveline and at the 63-67 registry site... any other sites that you folks know of???

Thanks

Rich

What does the VIN stamping on the pad read? Should be a minimum of seven digits. How about the engine plant stamping?

The pad at the front of the right head should have two stampings. One will be the engine code and should contain a T for Tonawanda. It will tell you the date of assembly (month and day, not year) and the original application for the engine (manual trans, auto trans, horsepower rating, etc.). The second number will be comprised of the assembly plant code (S for St. Louis) and five or six digits of the original vehicle's VIN. With plant code and engine code you should be able to get a pretty good handle on the identity of your big block.
