My Father-in-law has a Vette that he has been told is a prototype. It was given to himby someone who owed him money. It did have some unique rims with a "Vette" logo. And the back of it is a full foot (or more) wider than the front. Is there an aftermarket product to widen the rear of a 'Vette? If so can someone send me some links, product names, or infornmation so I can do some research?
I've seen a '69 with some add on glass parts that are meant to make it look like a Ferrari. It appears much wider in the rear as you have described. The owner worked (maybe still does?) at County Corvette in West Chester, PA. Why don't you try giving Jim Stuempfle a call and maybe he can add something to this. www.countycorvette.com

Anyone can, and too often have purchaed after market rims and put Vette logos on them. And YES, unfortunately there are after market body kits that do all kinds of visually unappealing things to Corvettes including widen the rear.

I'm not an expert, but I believe the back end is part of an after market kit.
Prototype? The prototypes I interacted with while I was a test driver for GM were VERY EARLY cobbled together shabby looking versions of the eventual refined production versions. I think your Father-In-Law is trying to say he has a "concept car" by his noting of the styling differences. Without knowing more I feel it's safe to say his car is a regular run of the mill production Vette with an after market body kit installed to customize it.
People can say they have anything, and in some rare cases they may have something, but it's all worthless without DOCUMENTATION. You can tell Dad I said that. GM is not one for letting their prototypes or concept cars get in the hands of the general public. The Corvette concept cars on display in the NCM in Bowling Green are on "loan" from GM.
If a GM concept car, especially a Vette, was in the hands of a private owner, it's worth an AZZ load of money. That's big time Barrett-Jackson stuff. See this privately owned GM/Oldsmobile Concept car?: http://www.barrett-jackson.com/event....asp?id=178112
It sold for $3,240,000. last January. My advice, don't start dreaming of how you're all going to spend the money just yet. I think it's safe to say the car your Father-In-Law has is most likely NOT a concept car, just another custom.
Post some pics. If he has documentation, post it. Otherwise he's got
I don't think any of the concepts shown there are in private hands. Over the years there have been many after market body kits to make production cars looks similar to some concept Vettes, but they are still just customized production cars. Customized production cars are usually worth much less than an original stock unmolested production car.

Ummm......Michael Yager has got a couple concepts/prototypes just up the road from me. One is a Cerv 1 and I can't remember the other Vettes name but it looks similar to the Astro II / XP-880. It's the one that fell off the truck while they were unloading it (sad to see the damage). Last time I heard it was under heavy restoration and hopefully it will be available for Funfest. Mikes got a lot of concept/prototype engines and other goodies as well.
In any event, post some pics of dads Vette & I'l keep my fingers crossed that you guys have somethng special

Dan, what in the world are you doing in the "Factory Correct" section....???
Your's is nowhere close to being correct!!!
My DeLorean is VERY near factory correct!
PS - I like the way you now end all your ribbing with "just kidding". Dwayne, trust me, after our talk I know it's all in good fun. I'm not going to take our banter personally.
Hey, wait a minute! What are you doing in Factory Correct Restoration???
No resto for me, mine is close, but it would cost to much to get it back to original. This is one of my old favorite haunts here on the forum.
We used to have a real great bunch of guys here, then someone ruined all the fun and they left...I still check in a few times a week to see who, and whats going on...

Maybe we should do some recruiting! I'd love to see this section get busy!
