Default spare tire cover

I posted this in another forum, but haven't gotten much action. My spare tire cover looks original on my very late production number '61(10106) however the lables (jacking inst. & posi warning) are on the bottom side. There are 3 rubber bumpers glued around center hole also on the bottom, I assume for rattle control. The metal ring around the center hole is on the upper side. I can't remember ever seeing the lables on the bottom but they do look original with yellow glue splashed around them. I do recognize that the ring could have been removed and put on the wrong side, but that would have meant the rubber bumpers were removed and replaced wrong also. All of which is possible, I agree, but could this have been original? Wib PS. The ring in the center has been grooved to accept the metal on both sides and still be flush w/board.

If NCRS judging is in your plan and the variation you see isn't discussed in the Judging Guide, you might bounce it off of the '61-'62 National Team Leader, Dave Heitzman (vettes6162@msn.com). It might well be original as you see it.
