Default Good LS swap shops in Houston or Texas......

I'm seriously considering an LS swap to my 1978 T/A. Not looking for a full resto mod job at this time or major horsepower, anything from the LS family with 330 to 370HP or so would be adequate, I just want reliability and an overdrive auto transmission. The car has a close to show quality paint job with a strong 455CI Pontiac motor with the 6X4 heads, T5 five speed manual trans. AC, powdered coated window trim, 17" staggered wheels and the interior is brand new as are all the mechanical aspects of it. My budget is (for everything, motor, 4 speed OD or 6 speed OD auto) around 20 to 24K which I think is doable.... or maybe not. Don't have room (or all the tools) in my garage so it's going to have to be done by a good fairly priced shop, preferably one nearby. Any suggestions and tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks.....

Good question.... I deserved that, wrong forum, obviously as your sarcastic question is meant to point that out. Moderators can I get this moved to off topic. So don't catch any more flack from the heathens on the PRC section.

No. nice T/A.

Original 455 Pontiac? Keep that Pontiac block. Reach out to Butler. I had a Butler 461 in my GTO. Was an awesome machine and bulletproof from Butler. Your budget is way more than enough for a sweet fuel injected motor from them.

I went through the same thought process with my '67 wildcat... 430 Buick motor, needed some work. Nothing major, but enough that I started thinking about dropping in an ls crate.
I'm glad I didn't. Running BB motors are getting rarer and rarer these days ... So i agree with the above (ignore owebo by the way, everyone knows he's a douche libtard, and more importantly doesn't know **** about cars) ... if you have a 455, and it's in good shape, I'd keep it. It's a unique motor, you don't see them too often, and they are torque monsters. Anyone with decent skills can drop in an LS motor, but takes real appreciation for the car to keep the 455.

And the heathens was done in jest as the emoticon pointed out, but you snowflakes get so butthurt without even knowing my political leanings. I work in the chemical industry so guess again dumbass who I'm voting for. STFU Einstein, you know what they say about people who ASSume?

Umm, don't recall seeing in my post that they did....

It is a 74 block with a crank kit, mild cam and a 5 speed. Nothing special about the car other than being a really good restoration. Just want a better day to day driver. I already have a 2017 GS that is my performance fun driving car. I just want drivability and dependability as I said before.

Thanks brother, at the very least I need a hydraulic clutch, mine is.... well I'm 6'3" and the clutch is fairly stiff even for me. I just want drivability and reliability. I've owned the car for a while, but I'm not concerned with a a fast car. Just want a fun car. Yeah I check out PRC every now and then and I hardly ever post so I know Owebo's stupidity but I don't suffer fools easily.

My 455 is in great shape and a torque monster but I'd still like a more streetable car. Thanks for your opinion, it is greatly appreciated sir.

What if the said LS1 came out of a Firebird? Could he paint it that light blue and be good? Hell, a friend if mine has a Firebird with a 350 Chevy in it and that's the engine it came with from the factory. Another has one with an Olds in it. What can you do?
