Let me start by saying I was over on Camaro5.com when I came across this comment. There was a thread about Pedders suspension on the new Camaro. This comment was not made by Pedders, just some ordinary forum member.
"Folks, this car is DEFINITELY set up now to smoke the competition. Forget mustangs. they can't compete with this. The Pedders Extreme kit, with just the 27MM front pedders swaybar and stock rear bar blows away every corvette I have ever driven - and I have personally owned 14 C5 and C6 Vette's. Of them, 3 with T-1 kits installed. And I am still on Stock Camaro SS tires!"
Now for those that don't know the Extreme kit consist of Xa Adjustable Coilovers, lots of bushings, and sway bars. I understand when you start modding different cars such as the Camaro SS and then compare it to the C5/C6 the apples to apples comparison goes out the window. However, when I read this statement it really got me scratching my head. I don't own a C5/C6 Vette but I have driven both, (98 Vert, 01 z06, 2005). I recently got a chance to drive a new Camaro but it was for a short time and didn't really get a good chance to "feel" it.
My question is for those that have owned or driven both what are your feelings of the two. I know most have not driven a Camaro especially one that has been Pedderized like this, but what do you think of this comment above. How much validity is behind it. I just don't think a car that weigh's close to 4,000 lbs can "blow away" a Corvette that weighs under 3,300 lbs even with all those upgrades. Although the chassis of the C5 may seem dated compared to the ZETA II Camaro chassis it was a work of art when it came out and is to this day known to be one solid platform.

No offense but this thread may be a moot point! The guy is talking specifically about a camaro that's been modified with specific suspension parts vs, from what I can gather, stock c5, c6's and a few of them with T1 upgrades...
For starters, I think the guy is full of szhit to say he's owned 14 vette's, c5 and c6's! Right there is a read flag, and tells me that this guy more then likely is a troll. Unless this guy is some crazy fanatic that has mucho dinero, and can TRULY test both cars at the track his statement has absolutely NO MERIT!!! I've done plenty of track days on my race bike, and I also worked as a marshall for several car and bike events. I've pretty much seen and worked them all...I've seen an old fat guy in a mildly suspension tuned 1985, or could have been 87 BMW really put it to some guys in the corner who had higher end cars. They would lose him in the straights, but in corners he could keep them at bay. WHat I'm getting at is (for arguments sake) that a GOOD TRACK driver in a z51 package c5can make use of his car and beat better cars that are more modern. C5 dated technology??? I suppose it depends on what you compare it to, but still VERY capable.
marketing....that's what i read in the first post.
being fast really boils down to 3 things. power-weight-traction
anyone ever see an old 93 civic run faster lap times than a stock c5? i have, know why? 250hp-2200lbs-r compound tires w big brakes {the design of this car is also in every way inferior to the c5}
blowing a wad of cash on a heavy platform really shouldn't impress anyone. i even like the camaro but what i'm reading above is just a marketing pitch.
i still have no idea how the c5 is dated. it has no bumpsteer, very little frame flex and a solid yet simple design. i wonder if the old ferrari f40 is considered "dated"
{fyi it was a car made in 1990 that's more "modern" than most everything made even today}
The day I see a 2:22 at road america with a stock engine out a F-body, is the day I will buy one. They are great cars, I love them for what they are. But don't think they are up to the performance of a C5 or C6.

From what I can gather this guys looks to be well off. He definitely has a very modded Camaro with a TVS 2300, extreme suspension, blah blah blah, the works essentially, so he's not blowing smoke about that part.
To some people a chassis that is 13 years old may seem outdated. Like I said though I was defending the fact that the c5 chassis is still a very solid platform.

I guess you could take what the guy was saying as marketing but like I said this quote was made by a Camaro5 forum member NOT Pedders. I see you point with the 93 civic comparison but that takes the discussion one step further. Now your throwing R compounds in the mix which apparently this guy doesn't need to run circles around corvette's. Again with the "dated c5" I simply meant to point out its not the newest kid on the block. I understand the C5 chassis is very capable I even said this in my original post. I just wanted to make the point that is was older (13 years) but still capable so someone wouldn't come in and make a comment like " Thats just what happens when newer technology is used"
One last thing i'm newer ish here but why did this get moved into the F-body section. I guess all discussions of Camaro's gets placed here even if its about the ZETA II and not F-body?
