New Camaro Z28 news / development: Ed Welburn indicates that Camaro Z28 is set for production!
GM’s Camaro Z28 plans are back on and the top-end Camaro version is set for production, according to Ed Welburn, GM’s VP for global design! The modified Z28 body is already completed, but the powertrain still requires calibration work. The tentative timetable is that the Z28 will not be available for at least another year.
The Z28 will be powered by the 550+ hp 6.2L supercharged V8 LSA engine currently in use in the Cadillac CTS-V. The Camaro Z28 special body will include a raised hood to fit the supercharger underneath, and there will be a tall rear spoiler.
I'm really glad to hear this. The z28 deserves to be made. I can see myself 5 or 10 years down the road possibly buying this car as a weekend toy. I expect my vette will still be my DD even then.
Sound's like the same motor that's in the ZR1. That's cool but that kind of sucks for the people paying over a 100k for the ZR1.
Its not the same motor but similar. Its the same motor thats in the CTS-V which is a LSA, not LS9. The Corvette has more heritage than the Camaro so its going to always have a higher resale value than a Camaro will so Im not sure how it would suck to pay over $100k for a ZR1. Besides that, they are two completely different cars.
Yeah a Camaro z28 and Corvette ZR1 are not at all in the same league. I see the z28 as the ultimate muscle car.. the end all be all of the genre of cars started by the GTO, Mustang, etc. I really think that the new z28 has a great chance of being a fairly rare collectors car down the road too... something for around $50k new that people will really want to stop and look at because it's different and eye catching. Corvettes are better cars all around and I'll always want a vette, but this z28 is something I'm really interested in adding to my collection someday (probably used). I'd love to have a C6 ZR1 too of course, but I doubt if I'll ever have extra funds for that.
Can't wait to see what it looks like. Too bad about the cost of these cars nowadays. I was at a dealership the other day with a friend and noticed a perfect 2010 SS Camaro black on black 6 speed. The exact way I would order it and they wanted $39,999. I just laughed and walked away.

especially when for only a few thousand more you can have a new 6speed C6, which is a full second faster in the quarter
idk what GM is thinking with the pricing on the new Camaros
The Camaro SS costs that now. Id say after dealer markup it will be around the same price as a new C6 Z06.
$45K for a new SS? Really? I thought these were in the low 30s? I figured the new Z28 to be in the mid 40's. Hell, if a new Z28's gonna cost $60K+ they might as well shelf the idea now because they wont sell many. Not when you can get a 540 horse GT500 for less than $50K and the new GT500 looks every bit as good, if not better, than the Z28.

Well it's not really GM setting the dealer prices. Going to the GM website and choosing all the options you want, they give you a realistic price. It's these damn stealerships inflating the prices to Corvette levels for some reason. Ah well, apparently they believe someone will buy it for that price, not this guy though.

I havent priced one out in a few months but the last time I did the SS I wanted was going to cost around $44k. I think the prices have dropped some on them though. You could probably get a base SS with no options for low 30's.

IDK4sure, but I think the CTS-V goes around $60k . The ZR1 is bringing over $100k still. I would think they would have to price a similar engined Z28 a little less than the Caddy. I can believe it will be a little higher than the GT500 but not much.

I don't know, my C4 ZR-1 sold for ~$70k new....when I bought it, it was 12 yrs old & cost less than a third of that. Today, 19 years after it came out....I see nice ones sell for around 20% of MSRP. If you desire a C6 ZR1, prepare for it, eventually you may snag one at your price.

So I'm guessing too much? There was a bk/bk SS advertised at a local dealer in the Sunday paper. I assumed it would not last but I thought that was not bad $$, maybe they are not bringing as much $$ as I thought.
