I have a restored '68 RS with 275 hp 327. Being a C6 owner I find the camaro's power to be a major disappointment. Considering changing engines. Would it be worth the time and effort to install an LS2? There are going to be major issues.

What are your thoughts and are you aware of any first gens with LS2's? If not the LS2, what?

Personally I would keep it all original but if you want a better engine in it I would do at least the LS3 but my personal choice would be the LS7.

It's not as hard as it used to be, now companies are making install harnesses for LSx engines.

Check out www.lateral-g.net/forums, lots of LSx swap info there. The Admin of that forum has a LS7 in a 69, bad @ss ride.

Here's the stock set up. It looks nice but I've been having vacuum issues which I'm sure is leading to some the performance problems. I had to disconnect the headlight hoses just to drive it. I'm thinking the old intake might have some issues. It was was in pretty bad shape when I started the restoration. I might try an edelbrock intake and see what that does.

LS3 would be awesome but don't want to spend that kind of money. I can pick up a used LS2 for about $3500. Probably less without heads and intake.

The LSx into 1stGen swap has been done plenty. Check out the Conversion/Hybrids section at www.ls1tech.com and do a search. The biggest obstacles are wiring and fuel, but can be overcome with patience. Another option would be a big-cube SBC crate from World or Sharifoff...

You could up the HP considerably by using 1970 Z28 components and it would still look stock. Cam, intake and heads would net at least another 75 HP and all simple bolt ins and ons......

The 327 has about 100 miles on it. I had it rebuilt and then it sat in the garage for two years while I did a sub frame off resto.

Sounds like you spent some $$$ on it, take it to a dyno and get it checked/tuned. Dist. could be off 1 tooth or that vacumn leak will make all the power difference in the world
