Default Camaro advise

I had a 99 vette but had to sell it to buy my house. I cannot afford another one. I saw locally a 2001 Z28 6spd t top burgandy with black leather, steering wheel radio controls, chrome stock wheels with 18k miles on it for $17k. It is a bone stock 1 owner car. Is that a good price. Does the 2001 Z28 have issues like the 2001 vette?

Seems kind of high. Id talk them down if possible. I wouldnt pay more than $15k at the most for that one. As far as I know there are no issues with the '01 like there was with the '01 Vette.

$17K is high for a car that is 6 years old and sold for $25K when it was new. But, low mile f-bodies have been absolutely stupid expensive lately. If you want a low mile 4th gen right now, you are going to have to pay. Once the 5th gen comes out, the 4th gen prices will quickly drop to normal levels.

I would look for one with more miles, maybe 50-70K, and expect to pay $12K or so.

Sounds like a nice car. 4th Gen F Bodies are bringing good money now a days. $15k sounds about right.

I agree with the others that the price should be closer to the 13-14k range.

There are some common issues:
  • The 16" chrome plated wheels have peeling problems.
  • The leather front seat bolsters wear very badly, cloth does not wear.
  • Chevy is covering catalytic converters beyond 100k miles on LS1 Camaro's, they sent me a letter last year. I had one replaced so far.
  • Roof adhesion is a problem on '98 and newer cars. The adhesive gasses through the SMC roof and paint causing bubbles and streaks where the adhesive was applied. I haven't researched it yet (as mine has the problem), but it may take zone approval to repair under warranty. It is about a $1500 repair. Do a search on some of the F body forums for roof bubbles.
  • Oil consumpsion on LS1's. If I keep my foot out of it, no problem.
I have an '02 that I purchased new and has 91k miles now. I love the car but I am planning to sell soon. I get 24-25 mpg regularly on my city commute. My '97 started needing major repairs at 100k, steering rack, tie rod, evaporator, intake gaskets.
